I have a good friend who bought a new G3 boat last fall- 18.5 feet, 110 Yamaha 4 stroke.
He has been in it only 3x. Took it back to the dealer after it wouldn't get up to plane and topped out at about 33mph. He's telling me the dealer says there's a problem with the hull of his boat. Has a new one that's supposed to be coming soon. I've suggested more than a few times (getting tired of hearing him complain) that he demand the dealer substitute a similar Lund for the time he's waited/wasted for this boat to be done right. Lunds have a proven record of quality- I don't know about G3s. Does anyone know if this is a product wide problem among these boats (and obviously then a design flaw), or did he just get a lemon?
Thanks,
Don

I've heard good things about the boats, and see them around quite a bit. If G3 is replacing the boat, then the owner should be very happy with the new product. Keep in mind this is a warranty issue and there isn't a builder out there without warranty claims, including the larger builders. It sounds like G3 is stepping up and making things right.

G3 is owned by Yamaha, and is very well funded and strong. I would not expect they would market anything but a product that is as advertised.

Agree with Worrall on this one. Seems to be quite a few of them out there with happy owners. I had a chance to see the 18.5 foot model at the sport show in Medford, WI and I think they had a 200hp HPDI and T8 kicker on it. It seemed to be a nicely laid out, well built boat.

Curious... 18.5 foot boat with a 110 hp 4-stroke... just how fast does he expect this boat to go? Similar model aluminums (1750 fish hawk, 1700 Lund Angler SS) with 115 four strokes top out in the high 30's to 40-41 at best if they are loaded very light. Doesn't sound like he's too far off the mark. Hull design, loading, etc. all come in to play. Not trying to start a debate but 110 seems a bit light for a 18.5 footer, especially if it's on the same model G3 that I saw with the HPDI on it.

Sounds like they are trying to treat him more than fair by offering another boat.

made the mistake of underpowering a hull once in my life ..... feathering the trim and worrying about where everyone was. that was the first and last time i'll ever do that. yagottaputthebigbruteon no matter if it's the 30 or 300 hp. limit for the hull. gotta power them. i'll guess that the motor was a honda? .... just a guess, but they look like they are so much heavier than the other 4-strokes out there.
