Location: MN | There has been a lot of talk on brands of line lately. What I am wondering is what pound test people are using? I have been told in the past to use 50-65 lb for spinnerbaits and bucktails and 80+ lb for all other types of lures. However, it now seems like everyone is just moving up in test when it is available.
The other item I am trying to figure out are the leaders. Many people have told me to use stranded leaders for bucktails to help them spin and the solid leaders for all other types. Does the stranded really do anything for you, or can you just use the solid one? Also, thoughts on fluorocarbon leaders?
Any information would be helpful. Thanks. |

Location: lansing, il | i use 80 and 100# power pro on everything. as far as leaders go i fish 80-90% of the time with flouro. the rest of the time is usally with a titanium solid leader. some like flouro some dont. i was turned on to it by steve herbeck, with as many big fish as he has boated thru the years without ever having a bite off it was good enough for me! but everyone needs to use what they are comfortable with. |

| #80 Spectron on all reels for me, I like 9" #174 singlestrand for everything. And I am one of those guys that does not fish with flouro, I just like my steel, its confidence( reallyfor me)! |

Location: Chicago, Beverly | 80 lbs for superlines, around 36-40 for braided Dacron like Musky Master. Gliders and Jerk baits definitely solid wire. Bigger cranks solid also. Smaller cranks and bucktails the stranded stuff. Topwaters I think may depend on which type they are, but I almost only use solid... Leader advertised strength should be about 100 at least.. |

| I use 80# pound cortland spectron on EVERYTHING!! I use solid wire on everything at least 175# and I use berkley ball bearing swivels and snaps. I use a good ball bearing so I don't have to worry about line twist with bucktails and other spinning lures and I just stay with solid sevenstrand wire on everything. I have only used floro for one month and thats all it took for me to never go back after I had a bite off on about a 45 inch fish! I won't use anything that can be cut with paper scissors!!!!!! |

Location: Menasha, WI | I use 100lb power pro on all my rigs,heavy duty ball bearing swivels, either single strand titanium or flourocarbon leaders, ABSOLUTLY NO SNAPS! quality split rings only!
There are very few excuses for losing a fish due to equiptment failure. |

Location: north central wisconsin | 65 and 80lb Tuff line xp(best value I have found for truly good line). I like the Spectron as well, and the new stren is not bad either, though a bit pricey.
I like single solid steel leaders like some of the others above. I use a lighter wire for 6" jakes, and small cranes, etc. And a heavier wire like that listed above for everything else. I like the stranded wire for live bait. |

Location: Kawarthas, Ontario | I use 100 lb. TUF on my flatline rigs, and 80 lb on my downrigger rods. No complaints. If I was fishing in potential WR waters, I think I might be tempted to rig up at least a couple of rods with 130 lb.

Location: Ontario Canada | You're right everyone seems to be moving up myself included , but why not it's hard not to.
I just had my Shimano spooled with 150 lb Power Pro.
The cool thing is it's only the diameter of 16 - 18 lb. mono
These days the World Record could come from anywhere.
Would you rather have 50 - 80 lb. superline on with a 70 lb. + fish on or 150 lb.???
Why take a chance ( why tempt fate? )
As far as leaders go I do prefer the flexable leaders for crank baits , bucktails and spinnerbaits but for
glidebaits , jerkbaits and top water I do prefer the stiff or piano wire leaders.
Through preference and experience to each thier own.

| I was a firm believer in whiplash, that stuff was indestructable, but now spiderwire stealth is my go to. 65-80lb. I'll also use spectron once in a while.
I myself am also a strict wire man, sometimes go without on jigs or plastic for better action but usually lighter wire 90-110lb on smaller baits and 150-200 on bigger jerks.
I also use a 90lb seven strand for trolling. |

| I don't know what kind of mono you have used but 150 pound
pound power pro is a LOT thicker then 18 pound mono. |

| I've done well with 80 lb. Cortland Spectron for everything except for light stuff in the spring. As far as leaders, solid single strand wire without a swivel has worked great for me. I've had perch hit the swivel before, and if perch can see it, I'm sure a musky can too. I haven't had trouble with line twist with bucktails with the Cortland line. |

Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | I use 65# PowerPro and a 14" 80lb fluorocarbon leader. Tie them myself using a grip knot (you need a tool to tie this knot) all knots are super glued. The only metal is a Duke 80# Snap. Probably the best snap on the market.
Do fluorocarbon leaders work- you bet, even for big walleyes in Canada- +18 fish between 22" & 31" in one day of fishing w/ my muskie gear. Folks that run Dogtooth Resort think I'm crazy! Actually so do a lot of my friends. Thanks Ranger, i.e., for turning me on to fluoro leaders.

Location: God's Country......USA..... Western Wisconsin | I use solid wire most of the time with a good quality ball bearing swivel for my bucktails that may rollover from time to time. I also use "The Duke Snap" the best snap on the market.

Location: minocqua, wi. | some will depend on the reels you choose. i use 80# TUF, steel leaders (home-made save $) and i re-tie before each long outing. alot of this is dependent on how much time you have on a knot or leader. when the snap gets shiny, change leaders. save your ball-bearings and re-use them, or give them to me. |

| I like most of the superbraids have 100# stealth and 80# tuff-line on most of my rods 65# powerpro on a couple for throwin small stuff - I will never use wire again - love 180# floro for most applications and 100# for small stuff. |

Location: Iowa | I use anywhere from 65-100 pound test power pro dependinf on the rig I am using...bucktails and spinnerbaits and early season stuf I usually use the rig with 65 pound test, all others I will use 80 pound test, and for trolling I use 100 pound test with a 40" leader that is a 225 pound breaking strength. I use solid leaders for everything except bucktail, spinnerbaits, and jigs...everything else is a straight wire leader...I have been known however to use 20 pound power pro early in the season in Iowa with a flourocarbon leader since the water is so f@#king clear...
