| so ive gotten into muskie fishing big time in the last 2-3 years.........i go on a canadian fishing trip with a group of guys in late july every year........last couple years ive had some close calls with some ski's but havent boated one worth celebrating about......since im kinda new to the muskie scene im lookin for all the help i can get...........like i said its late july when we go (of course the worst time of year  ) and tips on where to find some decent muskies during that time of year......usually i fish the deeper weed edges 13-18ft..........dawn and dusk usually i fish the tops of the weedbeds.........had good luck doin that good follows and some hook ups......by the way we fish cedar lake in perrault falls ontario..........any pointers would be greatly appreciated

Location: Athens, Ohio | MuskieFirst is indeed a good source of info for new folks, but you gotta be a bit more specific on what kind of help you need. We don't know what kind of equipment you are using, baits, set up. Maybe the best way to start is to get a copy of Dick Pearson's book, "Muskies on the Shield" which discusses basics that you are asking about. good luck with your quest. m

For fishing "shield" lakes, good reading/viewing is Dick Pearson's book and DVD...Invest in both, the book before the video in my opinion.
Then...LOTW is huge, so is Vermillion, etc. Time of year and all the other variables come in to play.
Also if you are new to muskie fishing, one of the best things you could do is to hire a guide with several goals in mind. 1. To learn more about using the equipment you own and things like boat control, reading structure, where/when/why. 2. Learn more about the basics of the water system you intend to fish. 3. Consider attending a MuskieFIRST outting on a body of water in the area that you fish.. People of all experience levels to learn from.
Then hang out here at MuskieFIRST like Mikie said and feel free to chime in on conversations, ask questions, etc.
Keep an open mind, don't get caught up in a rut. And have fun and never give up.

Location: Pittsburgh, PA | the best thing you can do is hang out here. this site is the best there is. ive learned a ton from these guys since i started fishing skis 3 years ago. just keep asking questions. there are not stupid questions so dont be afraid to ask. have fun and good luck |
