How is that plastic trailer added to the bait? It doesn't look like a burt or jerko.

This bait is going to catch a bunch of fish this year!! The back of the bait has a screw which you can thread mogambo tails onto. Jim has told me that the tail does not hinder the glide of these baits at all. As if musky needed any more coaxing to hit an HR !!! How many inches is that bait?

If you are asking about the pike...it's an 8" hughey. With the tail it stretches the tape to 12" johnny

looks like an easy modification to a regular 8" hughey... dab of super glue and a tail. Is that the only size he makes them in? Edited by Bukes 2/17/2005 1:19 PM

Bukes, these baits are specifically weighted to accomodate the tail. You will not have as much success simply modifying a regular bait. Jim is making the MVT for: 8" Hugheys and Shakers, 10" Hugheys and Shakers, Enchanters and Panfish Igniters. johnny Attachments ---------------- DSC01864.JPG (73KB - 71 downloads)

Location: Contrarian Island | Looks like an easy mod...I think I'll try it on one of my 6" Hughies

MSKY HNR, be careful... adding a tail to the 6" hughey could really hinder it's darting side to side. Try threading a mogambo onto the rear treble hook first and see how that goes.... johnny

Posts: 2752 Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | Hmmmm. Not an original idea, i.e., the screw to attach the tail. I have a one of a kind custom Muskie Treat circa Sept 2001 MF Cass Lake Outing that uses that same technique. Much better versus jamming some super glue & a tail into the A$$ of a Squirko nad hoping it sticks. BTW: Did the Shady One ever get all of his Squirko's back? - they were the hot bait and mysteriously there was Squiko raid on Shady's "Titanic". Treats- you should have Patented it! Have fun Al

Posts: 389 Location: Presque Isle Wisconsin | I Have only been adding the Kalin tails to the ENchanter model which is an up and down jerk bait style lure so the question of the effect on the glide is not a factor.I havnt thrown the new model yet so cant comment on it.Regarding the Enchanter it has done very, very well for me;however ,as is the usual case, there are times they want a tail and times they dont.

I think that the Enchanter is the most under-rated bait on the market today. You get all the benefits of a chop style bait and yet you can walk the dog as well...

Posts: 389 Location: Presque Isle Wisconsin | Actually I should correct my statement. The ten inch hughey or the ten inch shaker is not affected by the Kalin tail either. At least to any perceptible degree that I can see.I have some self rigged that way and they work well. The rigging was done by cutting down the length of the tail to accomodate the rear hook shaft.

Posts: 1504 Location: Oregon | You can probably get away with adding a tail to virtually any glider but from my experience modifications to the way the bait sinks will compromise at some level the lure action. Just out of curiousity I have weighted gliders so they fell quickly tail first or head first and they still swim but the glide width, stability, and predictability, is reduced considerably. In some cases this can actually be a good thing as the bait not only ends up going left to right but also up and down, much like a dying bait fish. My point is that if you take off hooks, add tails, change hooks, etc., try to keep the aspect of the bait in the water at or near what it was originally. I personally wouldn't tweak an original HR, they are too nice and too valuable to be choppin and modifying. Jed www.bikinibaitcompany.com

If you look at the first picture you will see that there is a cotter key holding the tail in.........

That was one of the earliest MVT baits. Jim has since modified it to a screw. As you can see in the pic of the pike hughey
