I will be conducting my research on Square Lake, northeast of St. Paul and near Stillwater, this summer in conjunction with MnDNR. If anyone knows of some temporary housing/sub-lease in this area, preferably furnished, please let me know. I am willing to travel some distence so any help is appreciated.

Thank You,

Mike Habrat
[email protected]

Edited by tfootstalker 4/5/2005 12:49 PM

| hey guy I was born and grew up in metro,,,Stillwater is a beutiful community subburb of the metro,,however its very trendy your going to find rent there a bit on the high side,,, If you come over for a scouting trip if you go north of the dnr HQ on Lafayette ave that neighborhood has some afforadable housing,,older and somewhat rundown but not a slum and you will be minutes from the DNR HQ and also the hwy that will get you out in the direction of square,,,Maybe you are already familiar with square but if not Ive spent some time on it especially in the winter,,square is the most unique lake in the metro, the most clear in the metro it is very popular with divers,,its managed for trout but not a designated trout lake which means you could use two lines in the winter,,At one time not all that long ago they used to also stock atlantic salmon but have now discontinued that I think because of cost,,too bad those were fun fish to hook into once in a while,,No muskies but some "Monster" pike have come out of there in the 30lb class over the years from getting fat on oily trout,,for a while in the winter you could keep has many pike has you wanted in fact the dnr I think was urging the public not to return them no matter how small they were just wanting them out,,I guess its what you call a two tier lake it supports trout but also bass and sunfish.,,you will have alot to study here are some sources for housing Apartment finder 1-800 222-3651 Rent 411,,,RENT411.com ForRent.com these are area publications that you can request sent to you we have them laying around our office at work | |||

Posts: 299 Location: Nowheresville, MN | Thanks for the replies so far. Square lake is definitely unique for the area it is in. We will be investigating the habitat needs and movements of four threatened non-game species that remain only in Square Lake in large numbers: shiners, darters and killifish. Common knowledge tells us that shallow vegetated habitats are crucial for the existence of most fish, at least for some time in their life-cycle. However, particularly as it relates to these species, the extent of that dependence is not well documented. Results from this study will hopefully provide management agencies some "ammunition" when it comes to the denial/approval of shoreline development permits. I'm looking forward to getting away from the less desirable toothy critters down here (snakes & gators) and back to the slimy kind Ben, email sent. Thanks Again Mike
