Posts: 20255 Location: oswego, il | I was wondering if anybody knows where to get hook tubing at a store for puting over the barbs of hooks. I know where I can get small quantities online but was wondering if there is a store that sells it by the foot. I can be clar, I have seen the grey stuff too, don't care which kind. Thanks for any help.

Posts: 459 Location: New Baden IL | Todd, Are you looking for heat shrink tubing for topwater baits to keep the rear hook straight? If you are, I bought mine at the local hardware store. It was in the electrical supply area. If you are looking for the clear stuff to put over hooks for shipping, I bought some at Wal-Mart. It was for sale back by the aerator supplies for fish tanks. Good luck, Rodney LaCaze

I think the stuff Todd is refering to is the really small clear plastic tubing to go over the barbs on treble hooks. Like the stuff you see on spinnerbaits hanging on the rack so you don't get poked by the display. I'm not sure where they get it, but maybe ask one of these guys that makes baits for stores.

Posts: 938 Location: NeverNever Lake | Clear vinyl tubing comes in 1/16 or 1/8 ID. not sure what size works best for hooks. Like said, look in plumbing supplies, never saw you "clar".

Posts: 1936 Location: Eau Claire, WI | Todd, I suggest Menards or Home Depot. If what you want is Shrink Tubing go the the electrical department. If what you want is a harder tubing to cover the barbs, go the plumbing dept. They have all kinds of different soft and harder type tubing in rolls.

Posts: 20255 Location: oswego, il | Thanks guys. I racked through a home depot yesterday and found nothing. I will try the ace by me and look for the screen stuff. 1/16" ID is what I am after. Al, if I don't bleed making baits it's not a good day, I keep the bandades on the workbench.

Posts: 2112 Location: The Sportsman, home, or out on the water | The spline is what I use to keep the hooks from coming through the packaging, as well as a safety thing for my customers at shows.

Posts: 20255 Location: oswego, il | I got the screen spline today, thanks guys it worked perfectly and much cheaper too. I have bought the tubing from jann's, it is too small and a pain to get over the hooks. The reason for this thread was to find an alternative to that tubing. Jann's is a great company and I get stuff from them alot, they ship very fast too.
