I just bought a used lund 2025 pro v se with a 4 stroke 9.9. Will this motor get me up to 4.5-5 mph to fish musky. Thanks Todd

We are talking about a boat with a 250 H.P. rating. I don't know the weight on this boat, but it is heavy. I wouldn't want a 9.9 for a kicker, I would have a 15 on that boat. One way to tell is put it in the water and see what it does. I would have over 100 H.P. on that boat. If the cost of a big engine is a factor you might consider selling that rig and getting less boat and more engine. There are times it is good to be able to go fast, like when a storm comes in,or the wind gets bad, or your fishing buddy has a heart attack when he gets a 60 incher. It's your money, spend it how you want. Later

I have a 200 yamaha on the back and a 9.9 kicker. I'm really hoping that a 9.9 will reach 4.5 mph, but it might be wishful thinking.

Now I know where you are comming from! A buddy of mine has a 20 ft. Ranger with a 15 kicker and I believe he said it would do 7m.p.h., I'll ask him if he doesn't see your post and reply.

Ski,
I have a 10 Hp kicker on my 20' ranger, and it might top out at 3.0 mph.
It is whining pretty hard to get up to speed.
It might be faster, the GPS is out on the boat right now.

Rodney said his 15 kicker pushes his ranger 2.8 to 3 m.p.h. I put a 6 on my 18 ft, Sea Ark and had to get it moving with the trolling motor before I put the 6 in gear or it would die. Granted, the 6 had been sitting for a long time and the carb was not right, but I only got 4m.p.h. out of it.

I think you should be able to get there. I have a 9.9 on my 1700 Esox Angler, and can get to 6-7 at wot. Granted, I have a smaller boat, but I've been in 2025's, 619/620's, and Tuffy 1990's eye fishing, and I think you'll be able to get it to 5. At some point, your just pushing lots of water with the boat, and 5 HP won't make a difference. Try it out and see what you can do with it. You might be able to bump that motor to a 15 with a carb change.

try changing props, and find out what the max rpm's are and go buy a cheap handheld digital tach and run the engine with the cover off get the max rpm's with the right prop and you'll pick up maybe a couple of mph. I use a 4.5 pitch on a 18ft boat and I'm at about 6,000 rpm and I gained 2-3 mph.

A 9.9 4stroke on my 620 will push mid to upper 5's, and that also depends on conditions. But even into big wind 5 is no problem. If you want speed higher than 5mph consistantly, I would go with the 15HP.

Good luck

I have a 9.9 Merc on my Ranger 621 and I have no problem getting the speed listed. I use mine to troll all the time. It will top out at about 6.5 mph. The only difference between the 225 and 9.9 is sound. The sound of the 225 is more bass and the 9.9 is a tinny sound. I hooked Trollmaster on the 9.9 and would not hesitate to put it on my next motor.

If by chance you have a mercury 9.9 four stroke you can purchase a 15 carb for about 250. pigs and its a simple swap. I dont believe you can change the carbs on the yamahas or hondas, and usure about the evinrudes or johnsons. Brian
