| Hi guys, I was wondering how many of you base your fishing trips around the phases of the moon?
If you can only get out at the weekend then it can be frustrating at times or do you put it to the back of your mind and go anyway? |

| I have found that with favorable weather that the moon plays an important part in catching Muskies. I don't worry as much about the phase as I do moon set and moon rise. I like to be on the best looking spots one and a half hours before moon rise and thirty minutes before moon set, then hit the three best places that are close together. I just keep going from one to the other. A person can catch Muskies with the moon up, but they don't seem to be as active. |

I fish muskies about 1/2 the time and all other species the rest. I'm not tooten my horn but after 9 season and about 800 muskies I have never seen any increase in activity or in size of fish where I can point to and say "it was because of the moon". Even if it did have something to do with it, the weather and or water condition would wipe it out.
To many fisherman look for excuses or reasons for there catch when its very simple, take a bait past a active fish at the right depth and at the right speed and you will hook up, end of story!!!
1st I base my fishing on the weather and the water conditions at the time not on something a fish can not see or feel. 2nd I fish when I can. The reason you see so many fish being caught during these so called hot times is because fishing pressure is increased, just ask a resort owner which times of the month book 1st. |
