Location: Hoboken, NJ / North Webster, IN | On Monday on Webster, my father and I were out fishing in the slop(ran, freezing rain, snow), and had something happen that got me to thinking how often it happens.
We had two suckers out. Both about 3-4 feet deep in about 8-9 feet of water. One closer to the boat, one farther away. The far sucker goes nervouse and acting funny, but not like a take. My dad slowly reels it in, and when it gets about 7 feet away we see the fish(about a 40") with the sucker t-boned. Just about then, the other bobber, which is 4-5 feet away from the current fish goes down and stays down. I grab that rod, as my father sets the hooks....as he's fighting that one, and see's it come boat side with no hooks in it, just hanging on....I set my hooks and am fighting mine. Long story short(too late?), I get mine in...a 37.5" and he loses his.
But it got me curious how many of you have had double sucker strikes?
I think of Muskie more solitary and we all know they tend to be tentitive with follows and such. Just thought this was an interesting occurance. |

| Muskies hunt in packs. I've seen in clear water 5-11 working a rocky point before.

Location: Somewhere on the water!!!!!!!! | I've had this happen three times.........getting a double. Twice it was on suckers, once I was alone and lost both fish (both on suckers) the other time my buddy had a fish on and I was picking up the net when the sucker rod went off, I told him your on your own and handed him the net....we netted both fish.
I was fishing a topwater once and had two fish come in a little under the bait, I twitched it a couple of times and let it sit and hit it hard one more time and one fish made a small move up and then the other lunged forward and nailed my bait. I think he thought the other was going to steal his meal.
I've seen a lot of Muskies herding up shad and popping them out of the water on some of the lakes I fish. They do travel in packs despite what everyone has thought. |

| I've had this happen before too with suckers. Missed the fish thou.
It is true. Muskies do pack up together to take advantage of schooling shad. I believe they do heard the shad schools against deep breaks or the surface. Kind of like cowboys with cattle or packs of wolves with deer. I've seen this and it is an amazing site.

| I wouldn't say I've put a ton of time in sucker fishing, but some, through the years and I recall three "doubles" while sucker fishing - far and away more than what I would consider a coincidence. All three "doubles" occurred while I was fishing deeper water; say 18 to 45 foot of water. |

Location: Washington, PA | Not a sucker expert by any stretch. BUt, fishing rivers in the late fall and winter, the fish stack up on the channel breaks. Not uncommon to catch multiple fish that you would think were laying on top of each other. |
