Location: Mendota Heights, MN | After 2 years of fishing and posting as "The Rookie", I have finally achieved the goal which I set for myself.
When I first became addicted to this sport I choose to call myself "The Rookie" until I boated a 40" + fish. While i certainely don't consider myself a "pro" now, I am now satisfied to leave that nick behind. For the past 2 years I have kept that nick, yearning for the day I could move beyond it. That time finally came Sunday at 2:10 p.m. on a Metro lake when i boated my first fish over 40". She was a beautiful 43" girl.
Last season (my first year dedicated to musky hunting) I was shut out. Did I think of quiting, did I want to give up, was it the longest winter of my life? Well, yes, but I knew persistence does pay. This year 5 fish, each bigger than the last.
I am more than happy to start all my thread counts at 0 under my new handle "Phoenix". Photos will follow in time when i finish the roll and get them developed. A special thanks to all of you who answered my inane questions.
This post is not meant to be about bragging, just sharing my excitement at finally reaching a goal that has eluded me for 2 years.
Proof positive that their are fish to be caught until the water is hard.

Location: milwaukee | Phoenix, congrats on shedding the "rookie" title. As you can see by my name, we think alike, 'cept my change will come when I boat the first legal. Had two opportunities over the last year (my first year dedicated to muskie) but lost them to inexperience and ineptness. I do have two 28"s and a 33" to my credit, and numerous follows, so I feel somewhat successful.
Glad to hear you were persistent and didn't quit. I have also been discouraged at times, driving home after many a zero fish (not even a follow) day. But after a few days rest and reading the messages here, I always get keyed up for the next opportunity to get on the water.
When I get down, I remember a quote from a sometimes fishing partner of mine: "it's not always about catching fish". He's right. |

Location: Appleton, WI | "Phoenix" nice job!! I had a buddy out with me this weekend his second muskie trip, Last year he had some follows, this year a real fat 35" caught on the 4th figure 8, unbelievable, I think he is now hooked. |
