I tried a search, because I thought I remembered a thread on this, but I didn't come up with anything [database issue, or just user error... hmmm].

We're thinking about a trip to Eagle Lake Ontario next year for a week of musky hunting. I will be bringing my boat and gear [still might hire a guide for a day, dunno yet].

Any tips on resorts, which side of the lake to stay on for the closest musky fishing, etc...

Thanks in advance... [need to plan ahead, eh?]

I go to eagle for a week every year and stay at sportsmens lodge in sportsmen bay. It is located where the vermillion bay section of the lake meets the west arm. The owner are great and there are many spots with fish over 50" close to camp. I got a 52.5" about 10 min from camp and then on the next spot raised a fish that made her look like a baby. I go the first week of Aug. and the fishing has been good the 2 years I've been there. This year we raised 90+ fish caught a few and lost a few couldn't trigger the real pigs but was I working 9 different fish in the 50" class. I would recommend sportsmen lodge to anyone and I would get there guide Greg for a day. He grew up on the lake and will get you started in the right direction. I have ran to the east end of the lake by vikings reef and the water is more stained there and might be alittle easier to trigger fish. Sportsmen lodge phone #1 (807) 227-5318

Hope you like it nomatter where you stay,
Jason

P.S. way cheaper than Andy Myer's lodge which i always wanted to go to but my buddies got a bad deal there this fall and there was no nightly meeting with fishing info like I've herd there was. Mabey it was because Herbie was closing camp not sure but I know they went for part of a week and payed more than I do for a week.

Andy Myers Lodge is by far the best place on the lake. Everything is TOP NOTCH. From Steve Herbeck running around making the entire camp run smooth, to the awesome guides like Mike and Cal, to the kitchen staff like Tracy and the rest of the folks up there, you won't and can't find a better group of people to stay with.

The information you will get up there is matched by no other camp/resort.

You WON'T be disappointed!

I have stayed at Temple Bay and North Shore Lodge and i much prefered North Shore Lodge. It is now under a different owner and i have not been there since the change so i cant speak on that. I have also heard nothing but good things about Andy Meyers Lodge. As for what place is closest to Muskie fishing...the whole lake is good muskie fishing. It depends on what type of water you would want to fish. Osbourne/Niven bay areas (East side) are darker water. Andy meyers Lodge area (West side) is Clearer water. Both offer a great shot at a big fish. Even if you take a boat, i would recommend a guide for at least a day. You can learn so much about a lake in one day that might take you alot longer by yourself. That being said, Andy Meyers guides have a great reputation.

I had herd great things about Andymyers lodge to form everyone but my friends. I think in mid Oct. he has a bunch of regulars there and runs things different than the rest of the year. I have had other friends go there with a good experience.

Been going to Andy Myers for the last 7 years ,sometimes twice a year.Have always had a great time ,herbie and his guides are definetly the best on the lake,if there are fish moving, they will get you on them..As far aslake info everyone shares their information in camp all you have to do is ask.food amd accomidations, docking all top notch. It may be a little more money than some other lodges ,but well worth the extra few bucks.Artie

Spent a week in early August of this year at Sportsmans lodge. God did the weather suck!!! That said it is ideally located on the lake for musky fishing. The owners are super nice. Only drawback is there is a railroad track in the back yard (literally) and a train that runs ever hour all night and sounds its whistle as it comes through. (This is not mentioned in the brochure) A weee bit unnerving to say the least. People will tell you that you get used to it and don't notice it after awhile but after 8 days I did not feel that way. It's a hell of a long way to go to have a freight train blasting through your back door all night long!

Hey but the people are great, it's inexpensive, and maybe you miss the hobo life on the rails.

OOooo man, the train thing is a deal breaker [too funny].

I had a similar thing happen while camping in a Wisconsin State Park [somewhere by Lake Pepin, I don't recall the name of it]. Train track, not every hour, but the first one got our attention! And it must have been the height of bull frog mating season... my gawd, I've never heard such a racket. Add 95 degrees, muggy and calm... and hey, it was quiet the weekend... felt like a jumpy, wet dishcloth come sunday.

Thanks for the tip... sleeps kind of a nice part of vacation too [grin]

I stayed in Vermillion bay on an island this year and really enjoyed our stay(other than the weather and the fact that some of my equipment was ruined in the wetness).  He does not have a meal plan, or guides(better of at Herbies or one of the others for that), but if all you need is a place to stay and dock, drop me an email and I'll give you his address and phone number.
