Has anyone trolled for ski's at night this time of year? If so, any success or tips? Speed, lure types, open water vs near structure, etc...

We're thinking about giving it a go after work during the next couple weeks.

I have tried it, but only a few times and not for extended periods of time. We did have one strike though on a planer board bait (so a smaller bait for us). Unfortunately my fishing buddy (a.k.a. choker) lost the fish so I'm not exactly sure how big it was but a conservative guess would be over 38.

We troll near some of the same prime feeding ground we cast during the day, something with easy access to deep water is typical for us and deep is relative to the lake/structure you're fishing. Even trolling over rock bars that top out about 4 feet from the surface.

Our boat speed is typically between 2 and 3 mph, but we constantly change speed and lure depths trying to trigger strikes. Basically mix it up until you find what they want. Cause you can bet they're feeding somewhere.

Don't forget a lure retriever and a spotlight

Thanks for the info. We figured it's worth a try. It's dusk by the time we could drop the boat in the water after work now.
Plus, we thought it would be kind of cool to hear the clicker crank off while trolling in the dark.... ;}
