Fished the fox chain friday before the cold front blew in. Thought the conditions were right for some action. Water temos were 66 degree's and the water clarity was still a bit stained. I only was able to fish until about 5:00 before getting blown off the lake. Raised 1 fish on a bucktail in Catherine on deep weed edge inside turn and that was the only action. Fished the deep weed edged and flats in both Channel and Catherine.

Take care,

Niel

Neil,
Fished the Chain last weekend and water temps had dropped from 72 degrees the previous weekend to 61 degrees last Sunday (10/2/04). Will be out this Sat. & Sun. guiding clients. Will be dragging the meat & casting. Water clarity on Channel & Catherine seems to be getting better. It was bloomy the Sunday I fished it when water temps were in that 70-72 degree range. Looks like the lake may be on the brink of starting to turnover once the water temps hit 58 or so. I'll let you know how we do this weekend.

Good to see you again at the ramp this morning Goomba. My brother and i fished the Chain from about 8:00-12:00 with no musky sightings. We had meat hangin both shallow and deep and were casting the deep weed breaks on both Catherine and Channell. Water temps were about 60 degrees and stained with many floating weeds
Let me know how you did Rich if you get a chance.

I heard of one boat that got a 48" on Channel on meat.

I need some help on the chain. I live very close by and I fish the river below Mchenry dam but I have never fished for musky up in the chain itself. Where is the best place to launch? What arethe decent musky lakes. Sounds like Catherine and Marie??? Any help would be great. I may have the wife with so we may need to troll a little. Lures? Depth? Thanks in advance, Tom

There are many on this board that know the chain better than me, but since you have not gotten a response yet I will give you my 02. If trolling, i would stay in 15 feet of water with either a depth raider or a 10" jake. I would keep speeds around 3mph and focus on Marie or Catherine. If casting, I would have at least one sucker out, one shallow and one deep would be my preference, with suckers being about 12" in size. I would cast deep weed edges in channell and work baits as slow as you can. Twitch and glide baits would be my choice. Keep the boat in 15 feet, spending more time on inside turns.
Good luck

no problem,

If you get suckers, I like to keep one right off the bottom (on the deep side of the boat) and one about 3-4 feet deep on the side you are casting. If you have never done it before, give it a try. Let us know how you do.

Good luck

Bob's Marina has a good launch. South side of Catherine, right off 173.
