Saturday was awesome for me, a sun hater- big wind, intermitent mist and downpours until after 1:00 PM. Bill Schwartz and I dragged two suckers that appeared to be as lonely as a Dallas Cowboy fan in Green Bay. We had boated two 28-30" northerns, one of them on a sucker. It acted just like a big muskie should have! We saw 4 other muskies, with one 45+" following a 9" Slammer Crank in to the boat. The suckers drifted right over it without any response from the very fat muskie......NO Justice!

Mauser and Mikie hit Cave Run for our now-becomming-an-annual Fall Trip. Waters were falling 8 inches per day. Friday afternoon, put the Gambler in the lake and the durn Merc wouldn't start. Ran down the battery trying, musta been mad at me for ignoring it for 3 full months! Got it to crank in Tony's parking lot so we figured we'd be good to go in the morn. Spent the evening with some wonderful folks at the Lodge, one couple brought a set of twin mixers and were mixing up Margaritas in one and Pina Coladas in another. I stayed with beer and learned what a hoot MuskyGirl2000 can be after a few!
Next morning, motor still wouldn't start. Went back to the lodge and got Mauser's truck, went to Clay Lick ramp and jumped the battery with his Ford, got fire and made it out. Fished the Flats and Caney Creek, then went back to Clay Lick to meet MG2K at noon. Once she was in the boat, luck changed for a while, Mauser got a strike, and I had a low thirties on my MuskieTreats bait for all of 10 seconds. Third jump was right at the boat and he left the bait behind. Stupid fish. We ran around the lake throwing baits the rest of the day and had a fine time.

Sunday, the motor started! Rained until 10 so we were a bit late getting out. Another weather change with blue skies. We saw a couple fish early, heard of 3 caught, but none for us.
Great to get back in the saddle and run the Sonic Booger again, thanks for such fine company at the Mountain Muskie Lodge. I shall return when the Corps decides they've drained the lake far enough. m

Fished Bald Eagle on Sunday evening 4-7, no fish seen. Water was really nasty with lots of floating debris. Walleye guys not reporting any luck either.

Hit the madison chain fri afternoon. I moved 4 nice fish over 40 in the first hour or so and my partner move 2 smaller fish. The biggest ~46 came up on the pause on a DDD. We were floating so I was able to keep the bait in her face and pausing without having to reel up line. Had her mouthing the bait and even came around like she was going to Tbone it but no luck...then it plain shut down!!

Heard it was very slow in Madison rest of the weekend...especially on Sunday....

Pee on indian summer days...bring me some snow to get these big girls eating!!!

Well, Sunday wasn't exactly slow in Madison for a friend of mine. Here's a FAT 47.5" fish caught on a quickset. This was a tagged fish - it was netted in the spring of this year, measured at 46", weighing 31 lbs. How heavy do you think it is now?

Nice fish...46 and 31 lbs? Not that it isn't a nice fish but highly doubtful...I caught one of the fatter fish boated as of late at 46 and it mayyyybe went 26-27lbs...Your buddies fish is high 20's..maybe 30...

47.5" and good girth, I'd guess upper 20's. Nice fish! She might have been full of spawn when she was weighed this Spring, did they give you a date she was tagged?

Mr. Lard, Great fish! Unless a fish is weighed, which in the overall scheme of things doesn't really matter, a pound or two one way or the other can be reflecting a recent meal that it had ate. It still is a great muskie! Granted, if it had recently eaten, it still wouldn't stop it from attacking your bait due to your awesome fishing abilities!

I lost 2 fish, one right at the boat and had a few follows. Running hot had a nice one miss his bait and had a bunch of follows and luke chinewalker lost a low 40's fish that came out of the water and had one swipe another bait. We had action from about 15 fish. Wish we had suckers nobody had any! Great day to be out on the water, had alot of fun.

Fished okauchee with Bukes and his cousin.. They each caught a pike. We saw one fish roll on a bait but not grab it, and had one follow...Much like Mauser and Mikie we had some boat trouble... Flooded the s.o.b. and couldn't get it started for quite some time... Fortunately the Trojan battery had a fresh charge so we trolling motored around for a couple hours while the motor dried out..

I was just relaying what the DNR told the man who caught the fish. They didn't tell him what day the fish was netted, only that it was in the spring. 31 lbs does seem heavy for a 46 incher, even immediately pre-spawn. A quick girth of this fish in the boat was 21.5".

I heard about that fish caught on monona....VERY NICE. I still say it was slow on Sunday from what I heard from everyone else.....one fish takes you from zero to hero really quickly....but that is fall fishing...fish all day for that one fish!

Was that a BS Willy rigged sucker

Congrats on the nice fish!!!

Sad to say but it was probably my last muskie trip of the year. Boated a 37 on a sucker, had one swipe on a DDD at the boat, and watched a four footer follow my sucker for a few minutes.
