The 8th annual Catch & Release Petenwell Musky Challenge is closing the chapter for the 2004 tournament by stocking their muskies. The money raised was from the tournament back in May of this year. We raised $4,000.00 and are looking to stock 400 plus muskies (12-18 inches) on October 21st.

We have stocked 2,180 over the past seven years and are hoping to go over the twenty-five hundred mark next week.

We invite all tournament sponsor and contestants and anyone else to come down and be part of this exceeding event. We will be filming and taking pictures of the release muskies.

Our location this year is at the Edgewater Resort on the north east side of Petenwell Flowage, just off county road Z (1674 Apache Lane) next to the Hide-A-Way restaurant. We will be down there about 1:00 p.m.

A special “Thanks” to all our sponsors and contestants. I will follow up with some pictures next week.

Well it was a beautiful day that the musky gods gave us. This past Thursday October 21st we finalized this year’s tournament by stocking muskies from the funds raised in the Catch & Release Petenwell Musky Challenge.

Edgewater Resort on the north east side of Petenwell was this year’s location. We had about 25 people come down and help with the release; some of our sponsors and contestants took turn placing dip nets full of muskies in the water. We all welcomed these new muskies to the mighty Petenwell Flowage. Hoping all make it to the 50-plus inch mark and allow us to have the opportunity to catch and take a picture some day. Our final count was 370 muskies 12-18 inches long released into Petenwell Flowage.

With the efforts of all our sponsors and contestants we have been able to release 2,550 12-18 inch long muskies into varies locations of the Petenwell Flowage.

Lloyd Kalepp owner of Kalepp’s Fish Farm from Dorchester, WI delivered these fish. This is our eight-year working with Lloyd.

We’d like to take this time to sincerely say, “thank you” to all our sponsors and contestants who supported our stocking efforts.

Great job sir. For those of us not familiar with the Petenwell Flowage could we have a little history? Size? Forage? Strain of Muskys your stocking? etc.

Todd is entirely too humble. this wouldn't happen without him...and in lieu of cashing in on the tournament he turns it right around and puts it back into the resource.
i attached a couple pics of the fun we had putting some future record breakers into the lake.

he thanks the contestants and sponsors...but it's us that need to give him the big THANKS!

as for Petenwell...check out Todd's website for more history on the creation of the flowage than anyone has a right to know: http://www.forciersguideservice.com/index.shtml

it's part of the Wisconsin river, so the forage is suckers, panfish, shad, etc....lots of high protein. the local DNR fisheries manager said last winter that fish growth is above average with fish getting bigger quicker; likely due to all that good eating they can do.
thankfully we've got a 45" limit about to go into effect on the system...so that should tell you something about the potential to catch some nice fish out there. it's a big big body of water, with lots of room for them to move around - mostly seeming to avoid wherever i happen to be fishing!

Todd or Reef Hawg can tell you much more and better info...

Thanks Todd for your efforts.  With the fish you put in, added to the 349 that Donnie and I put in(ones we raised in our ponds for the Consolidated musky club), we stocked over 800 into the river this fall(we decided to stock a couple different stretches other than Petenwell as you and the DNR stocked it this year).  86 of the muskies that we put in, we overwintered from last year, and were 17-23" long. Keep up the good work man, as together, we are all making this into something special!!

update from Todd's website...keep it up everyone!!!!!

We’d also like to acknowledge the efforts of two musky Clubs.
Consolidated Musky Club, on September 21, 2004 stocked 200-plus muskies in different stretches of the Wisconsin River.
Port Edwards stretch: 21- muskies 18-23 inches long and 48 - muskies 10-½ inches long.
Wisconsin Rapids stretch: 21- muskies 18-23 inches long and 100-plus 10 ½ inches long.
Biron Flowage, North Biron Drive landing: 21- muskies 18-23 inches long and 48-muskies 10 ½ inches long. Galecke Park landing: 21- muskies 18-23 inches long and 48- muskies 10 ½ inches long.

Consolidated Musky Club got their muskies from the DNR and raises them on their own. Working on the Schauer family ponds and getting minnows from area cranberry ponds this club have a proven track record for raising quality muskies.

Also, the 12 Apostles Musky Club stocked muskies on October 7, 2004. They too released muskies in different sections of the Wisconsin River.
Stevens Point Flowage: 67- muskies
Whiting Flowage: 15- muskies
Biron Flowage: 85- muskies
All muskies ranged about 18-20 inches long. Several club members along with students from UWSP fishery society were on hand. UWSP students clipped one fin on each fish.
Funds were generated from a club raffle and purchased from Kalepp’s Fish Farm.

Congratulation to both clubs for their strong efforts in keeping central Wisconsin a strong musky factory.
