Posts: 714 Location: Rhinelander, WI | J, notice the split rings on the front of the baits………..I suggest you remove your snaps and use those split rings before you start casting any fancy glide baits. Sorry couldn’t resist. So it looks like I will have to race Steve to beat him to the spot on the spot, cause once he tosses one of those bad boys over that spot resistance will be futile. I hope he doesn’t have the rig with the 250 back. Like it will matter anyway as I wont be fishing until after my sons football and get my dads dock out and motors winterized. You have all morning and into the afternoon on Saturday Steve. Then there is the Ohio/Badger game on at 2:00. I may just have to skip that though. Nail A Pig! Mike p.s. If you see me in the water with the waiters on, please no bow rollers.

Posts: 1996 Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | Steve/Beav, I want one, I want one....wait maybe I want two. How does one hook up with a castor? Steve has a decided advantage over me when fishing the queen and I don't like it!!!!

Posts: 1504 Location: Oregon | Hi Esox, I have posted a picture below of my new "bluegill" pattern (which still needs its clear coat) on top with a slammer dropbelly immediately below it for you to see the difference in the two baits. As you can see my bait is actually deeper throughout its entire length, particularly in the belly. Beyond that I believe the slammer baits are made from mahogany, mine are made from poplar and the action is quite different, much more roll in the slammer bait which I prefer to minimize. When I set out to build a musky bait I tried for literally weeks to come up with "unique" design of my own. In each case I found that in some way it was very similar to something else on the market. I finally just settled on the shape I did because it provided me with an action I most liked. I think my Turmoil Bait also looks a bit like the Legend Plow but in reality the profile came from a live saltwater fish photo I have. There is also a reason why so many baits look similar, physics prevents builders from going too far outside of a certain range of design limits. I have tried to include a wooden tail on some of my gliders for example and they flat won't glide regardless of how the bait is weighted, well at least not for me. You might find it interesting to do a seach sometime at the US Patent and Trademark website. Once there do a search on "fishing lures" and click on "related patents" and you will see that virtually every lure on the market from small to large, spinners to cranks, is a slight modification to designs that have been around for decades. The truth is that the slammer dropbelly like my bait is similar to many others on the market. The Cobbs Crazy Shad, Lureland Hammer, Slidin Shad, Magic Maker, and the Bagley B-Flat to name but a few. These baits are made in this shape because they mimic the profile of many prey species. What bait can claim it's own shape? Virtually all baits on the market are a slight variation of a shape that has been around for a long, long time. The Zara Spook being a perfect example, how many knock-offs are there of this bait? Dozens. Heck the spook may have been a knock-off for all I know. Some of spook look-alikes only differ in size from the original design and have made a killing in the market. What about round baits? The zig-zag, undertaker, slip slider, power glide, mr. automatic, there are dozens that are virtually identical. I try to offer a bait that I think is better than most. I have a great day job and make musky baits because I enjoy it, it's not for the money believe me. I also try to offer colors and patterns that you might not see everyday. I hope sometime you will give one of my baits a try. Best Regards, Jed www.bikinibaitcompany.com Edited by RiverMan 10/14/2004 9:36 PM Attachments ---------------- ![]()

Riverman, Do you paint those? Or are they photos of paintings? They look a lot like Joe Tomelleri prints. I have one of his catalogs with prints in it and that Bluegill looks alot like the one in the catalog. Cool either way, just curious.

Depending upon the pattern I use a combination of photo finish and airbrush paints. The photo images in my baits are all of my own design and I own all of them. Boy do I wish I could use Joe Tomelleri's stuff, he's amazing. Thx. Jed

Posts: 4266 | I was thinking that it would be tough to paint something that looks like that. I wouldn't know where to begin. I've got a better image of Sworralls Weagle before he got it. The Purple Haze looks lots different in person too. The last pics of the Castors haven't been clearcoated yet. I've got another 150 bodies and some 10 inchers, but they'll have to wait until next season. Cold weather makes painting in the gargage impossible. Next year you'll be able to buy Castors through tacklefirst. I'm good at painting but not at running a store. BTW, the Smuttlys that I painted will be available at The Kly Auction!!!!!!
