| I am looking for a jerkbait rod and have narrowed it down to two models: the 6'9" heavy St Croix Premier and the 6'8" heavy Compre rod. I have had good experiences with St. Croix in the past and had settled on this until I saw the new Compre. It is light, about the same length as the St. Croix, and has a better warranty. In addition, the Compre is about $20 cheaper. I liked both rods simply handling them in the store, but I don't know how well they fish. The St. Croix feels like it has more beef to it, but the Shimano has a higher recommended lure weight: 1-5 oz for the St. Croix and 1-6 oz for the Shimano. I plan on using it to toss 7-10" jerks with an Amb. 6600 C4. Your recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

| That St. Croix Rod is perfect for jerkbaits but I can't help you with the Shimano because I have never used it. I have two Premiers and two Pete Maina BPS, both great rods.  |

| The 6'9" St Croix is the best rod for heavy jerk/glide baits.
This year I picked up a 6'9" Avid, and could still throw the heavy artilery, but it had more give in the tip, which is a feature that I like.
If you're looking for a rod to throw "beef", you can't beat the 6'9" Premier.
