Well, I wish that I could say that I pounded them, but I didn't.
Water temps dropped 6 degrees in 2 weeks, and I lost 5 days of fishing because of 35 mph winds and rain or one of each.
I did have an oportunity at a 50+" fish that ate my Castor head first and then went on a short run and a tirade that wound up with the back treble getting stuck above her gill plate and the front hook coming out. All 10-15 feet from the boat, so I know exactly why I lost this one.
Yesterday my wife and daughter and I got to see 4 fish that were 4 foot or better, but none would eat. All my wife could do was gasp when a 52 or bigger fish came all the way to the boat and then hung around so we could watch her for a full minute.
All fish were on steep breaks. The water was coming up and cooling off, but there were no fish shallow or hanging in the weeds, it was steep breaks.
The Castor worked out great. I guess it's a multi-species lure. I managed a 24" walleye, a 45" ski, and the biggest pike that I ever caught....42.5 with a 25 inch girth! The ski was fat too, pushing 23-24. The fish seem to be in a fall pattern, and they are the fattest fish that I have ever seen, even the walleye.
I've attached pics of the ski and the pike.
The Castor worked just like I wanted it too, and I guess if fish eat it, you can't ask for more....even my kid had no trouble working it.
Sorry for the self-promoting, but it's my story so I'm telling it.

Beav,
Great story and nice fish too! Heck, tell us about your bait. I love it when someone has an idea, crafts the bait then catches fish. That's "high art" in my opinion. Too bad about the wind. Sounds like you had the big ones interested though. That's always fun. Good luck the rest of this fall with your baits.

Beaver, you self-promoting fool. You're surely at risk of major censoring by those who have the responsibility. But wait, I have connections, a GET IT TAKEN CARE OF kind of relationship. Send me a Castor for field testing in Michigan and I'll see that you are shielded from the storm that looms dark and heavy on your near future.

(can you tell I'm in a Hunter Thompson kind of mood?)

No kidding, Beaver, send me a bait or else suffer the consequences. PM me for an address. Today.

Nice pike.

I'm glad you like it. I was happy with it.
It's a great shallow to mid depth glider. I even worked it like a Reef Hawg, just under the surface, and it still had a nice walk the dog thing going. The fish were still eating it on the pause though. A little warm spell, and I should have a bunch painted up.
Was told by an atty that I can't call the Clownfish "Nemo" because it's a registered trademark, so I'll be painting Clownfish for anybody who wants them for the Holidays.
Steve, you should see the Purple Haze pattern I made. Gee, I wonder if Jimi Hendrix will sue me for calling it that

Steve, send me an e-mail and let me know when you're going up to Cadyfest. I have to get your Weagle back to you.....never got one of my own..... and maybe I can paint up a batch of Castors to send along with you by then, depending on when it is and when you're leaving and how the weather is. Already trying to figure out a painting enclosure with an exhaust fan for the garage so I can paint in winter. The way it is, I'll be lucky to get the forty that I have prepped and painted before mid October and in time for turnover.

Beav:

You da man! Just got my CASTORs and I absolutely love them. Every once in awhile this site gets lots of hype of some new lure - the hottest-must-have bait. Too often they end up staying home (reduced to sitting the bench with the other imposters) Can't say enough about these CASTORs. Outstanding paint jobs - I already beat the crap out of mine and so far it has stood up to the abuse. I moved three fish in two hours on the Shad pattern. I also dig the T'd hooks! I know you've been busy - but get busy on my Christmas order before it gets too cold.

Beauties, Beaver. Being from ON, I'm probably one of the few guys on this board who'll take a sow northern along side a ski any day of the week. Those 40 inchers are just as special, for me anyways. Thick, well laid-out pike. Colouring on that ski is gorgeous, too. WEay to go with getting the family in on it, too. Makes a good trip great.
