Posts: 2691 Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | The opener was very good this year. Lots of mid thirtys fish caught. The muskies are still spawning and very beat up. One 38-incher had spawn dripping from her. Water temps are 51 degrees on the west end and 55 degrees on the east end. Weeds are down everywhere and just starting to grow. This is a good time for the DNR and Lake Association to get out and see what kind of weeds are in the lake. The cabbage is the tallest weeds in the lake at this time. Saturday my brother Greg and I caught 5 muskies. 35, 30 1/2, and 38 1/2-inch for me and 37, 37 1/2 for Greg. Sunday I caught a 40 1/2, 33 1/4 and a 37-inch. Mark Sankey boated a 35-incher with me also that afternoon. Gregs and I had a double on Saturday. He caught a 37-inch muskie, I put her in the net and reached for the tape to get a length est. As I finished my sucker rod started to sound off. I set the hooks hard and greg netted my 38 1/2-incher with his still in the net. I will try to attach a photo of the double and one of the 40 1/2-incher. Edited by Mikes Extreme 6/5/2004 10:11 PM Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]()

There were no weeds to be found this last weekend. Only weeds I found looked brown and dead. Did happen to get one 36''. Heard of all small fish in 30's caught saturday and sunday. Eastern basin was like chocolate milk. Did you pick up your fish dragging meat?

Posts: 2691 Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | The "slow no wake" is over on Pewaukee lake as of today(6-5-04). Fishing has still been slow for muskies. The bass are going nuts. We caught 10 largemouth bass, 3 shorty muskies and a pike Friday. Saturday we got a 5 bass and a shorty muskie. Very slow going for muskies this past two weeks. I put 3 legals in the boat but worked hard to score them. With the slow no wake lifted the lake is now open to run and gun. Most of the weeds are starting to come up. Finding the good weeds is key to gettig on active muskies. Lots of spots still are bare of weeds. Water temps came up to 67 degrees today and that might spark the females into eating. Most of the action has been from active males or shorties. I had the pleasure of taking some pictures fo a nice 52-incher that a friend of mine CPR"ed last week. I will attrach a pic when I get one from him.

Posts: 2691 Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | The fishing is starting to get better this past week after the 4th of July. My son and I got out for a Tuesday evening outing and score 2 muskies. Mikey took the first fish and it turned out to be a 47-incher, I took the second and got a 35-incher. Wednesday I was out as the sun was coming up and stuck a 46 and a 42 1/2-inch muskie before 6am. Mark Sankey stuck a 38 1/2-inch shortly after 9am. We stuck it out most of the day and I got one more fish, a 40-incher at 6pm. Thursday morning showed us a 39 1/2 that hit my crank bait around 6am. The casting bite is still good with fish eating top water and bucktails early and late in the day. Try crank baits when the sky is clear. Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Posts: 2691 Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | The water temps are now set in the low to mid 70's for the summer pattern. Look for muskies to be on the weed edges early and late in the day. Suspending fish have now started to show up in deep water. Since we never had a long period of hot weather so far the fish are spread out from shallow(10 - 12ft) to deep water(over 30). I have had some great luck with some huge fish lately. I caught a 52.5-incher with a 22-inch girth. I was out with my son after work when this monster muskie hit. Mikey took the pictures as I held her and then we layed her down on a rain wetted rain coat for a accurate measurement. I will post the best pictures of the fish not me. This fish was heavy to hold. The next fish was a clients fish. Perry had no problem letting her go for someone else to catch. I am getting him set up with a replica of his trophy fish. The muskie went 53-inches and had a girth of 23-inches. You can see in the pictures below how the hold of the fish can show off the real size of the fish. I don't have a real good picture of my fish but got a quick shot of Perry's fish before I layed her down on the WET rain coat for a good measurement. I helped Perry hold the fish because it was his first muskie and didn't want the fish to get dropped. Big fish need speacial care, actually all fish need great care when handling. Remember these fish are everyones, the more released fish, the bigger they will get and the more often big fish will be caught. Please do your part when you get your chance to score a trophy fish. It doesn't have to be killed to be called a trophy. Catch and release works, every year it seems like the average size goes up and big fish are always caught in Pewaukee Lake. Enjoy the pictures of the fish that are still swimming around Pewaukee Lake for you to have a shot at. Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Posts: 2691 Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | Muskynightmare, I saw you post and would like to share some info with you. The casting bite has just started to pick up. Try topwater at daybreak and dusk along the weed edges in the west end of the lake. Work the North shore and the South shore. Any points and areas close to deep water will hold fish at times. If the wind blows hard it will be good on the wind swept side. Most of the muskies are deep with the panfish still but some are comming back shallow with the cooler air temps lately. If you fish all day you will do best working crankbaits along the weed edges. Pewaukee is a small bait lake. Bagleys seem to work the best. Firetiger or Crawfish. Feel free to e-mail me or call me for more info. I can say it easer over the phone and can explain spots better for you. Stop by Smokey's Muskie Shop for some help. I guide out of there and share info with the help, they know whats working and when to use it. Tell them Mike sent ya !!!

Posts: 2691 Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | Muskynightmare, Here are a couple of fish caught Friday the 13th. We trolled them up after dark on small crankbaits. We were targeting walleyes and muskies but only muskies hit last night. The last is called "a happy3" (5x3 is the picture size) Look at the 3 happy faces-me, the fish getting released and my reflection. Posts: 2691 Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | The fishing is starting to pick up as the water starts to cool. This past Labor Day the fishing was very good. Trolling and casting produced fish in the afternoon. I never got out in the AM because I stayed out after dark casting for muskie on the weedlines. Water temps are in the low 70's and are going to drop back into the high 60's this week. Low's in the 50's at night will keep the water temps down. This might have been the last of the 70's for this year. With the days getting shorter so is the fishing time after work. Fishing preasure on the weekdays will start to decline and the fishing will just get better. I will still keep fishing from 5pm till 10pm until the water temps dip under the 50 degree mark. Plenty of action after dark for those who choose to put the time in. This past weekend was good to me, my friend Joel and my clients. We boated a 49 1/2, 44 1/2, 40, 38 1/2, 38, 38, 37 1/2 plus all the follows we didn't catch. Here is a couple of the bigger fish that got released this past weekend. Posts: 2691 Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | Fishing was great up to the last real hot spell and cool down this week. Seems like most of the fish moved back out but they will be back soon. The water temps are in the very low 70 and falling, look for the cool nights to drop the temps into the mid 60's by next week. Here are some of the better fish we boated since the last post. Catch and release works, just ask Mark Sankey aka SANKS. He caught this 49 1/2-inch slob one week after I released her. Same spot, same time but different bait. The second fish is a 47 1/2-incher Greg Mise caught while fishing with me the 10th of September, this was one of three fish caught that night. The night before I scored a 44, 42 1/2 and a 35-incher checking out new areas before my Friday outing with Greg. Since then the action has slowed but it will start to rock again soon.
