Location: On my favorite lake! |
I am going to be fishing the Fox Chain this weekend early, early morning hopefully to stay away from some of the traffic. I have only fished it 2 times both without any luck. Could anyone tell me which of the lakes are better than the others. Any info would be helpful.
|

Location: Minneapolis, MN | I do a lot more fishing than catching on the chain but since you don't have any other replies I'll offer what I can. I was on the chain yesterday from 10am to about 3pm. I got one that I didn't measure but probably went 36 on a crappie pattern unweighted 9" Suick. I only had one other phantom fish sighting for all my efforts. The fish hit in about 4ft of water on a steep weed edge on lake Catherine. The fish came from the NW corner of Catherine just north of the sand bar between Catherine and Channel lakes. If the wind is blowing out of the East or South East this can be a good spot.
Generally speaking, people catch most of the muskies in Channel, Catherine, Marie and Bluff lakes. For me Bluff tends to be a much better spring lake than any other period. Petite has good fish in it and gets substantially less presure because of the long no wake channel between it and other lakes. Fox Lake and Pistakee hold fish but virtually nobody fishes for them probably due to the lack of structure and boating traffic. |

Location: Illinois | Lightning, Luke C gave you some great info on the lakes so I won't repeat but agree with his advice on lakes. I can tell you location wise they are hanging near points that lead to deep water and midlake structure. There is not much happening (for me) on the shallow flats or bays. Good luck, I'll be out there again Sunday. hj |

Location: Illinois-Indiana | All good info above.
Your best bet is to stay on the northern lakes and try the secondary breaks that have good weed growth. Try downsizing your lures and working slow eratic jerk baits and twitching small cranks over the weeds and along steep breaks.
Good luck and let us know how you did. |

| I caught a small one on catherine about 32 in. It was in about 7 ft of water in the weeds. Also caught a small pike. |
