Posts: 7119 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Kyle "Kly" Stefanski First Annual Benefit Auction and Tournament Early in the Spring of 2004, the muskie community lost one of it's best and brightest when Kyle "Kly" Stefanski was killed in a tragic car accident only a day before his 23rd birthday. A resident of Downers Grove, IL. and a student set to graduate from the University of Iowa this spring, Kly was above all a muskie fisherman. Never was a drive too far, or the weather conditions too harsh to keep Kly from hitting the water in pursuit of the elusive muskellunge. His drive to chase muskies found him fishing waters from the hills of Kentucky, to the plains of Central Illinois, west to Iowa, and north to Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Ontario, Canada. What set Kly above his muskie fishing peers though was his infectious smile and an outgoing personality that garnered the respect and love of fellow muskie enthusiasts in a sport where age and wisdom are generally seen as the hallmarks of a great muskie fisherman. His passing was felt by all those who had the opportunity to fish with him and those who heard the heart-felt words of those who mourned the loss of their friend. A two part fundraising effort is now underway to honor the memory of Kyle. All proceeds of these efforts will go directly back to the resource that Kly was so careful to protect in his fishing; muskies and the stocking thereof. Lake Oukachee and other lakes in the Southeastern Wisconsin area will recieve stockings of yearling and larger muskies paid for by the money raised through this effort. Each young muskie put into the water will be bolstering populations of fish that gave Kyle such joy and was the source of his greatest passion. The first part of the effort will be an on-line auction to be held in the chatroom of MuskieFIRST (http://www.muskiefirst.com) on Thursday October 28th at 7PM Central time. This live event will give muskie enthusiasts not only the chance to bid on lures and products from some of the most well respected bait manufacturers, but also a chance to put their money towards a great cause. A large number of companies have stepped up to the call to action so far, with more to surely respond in the coming weeks. The second part of the fundraiser is going to be a Muskie Tournament which will be held on Lake Oukachee in southeastern Wisconsin on Saturday October 30th. Jollymon's Restaurant in Oconomowoc, WI. will play host to the event, with pre and post tournament gatherings as well as acting as tournament headquarters. With a $50 per person entrance fee, the event is sure to bring out both the competitive juices muskie fishermen and women, but also their desires to contribute to a cause that will memorialize a young man who embodied much of what all muskie fisherman hold in so high an esteem: passion, enthusiasm and an enjoyment of all things muskie. Further details will be available as they are released on MuskieFIRST (http://www.muskiefirst.com), MuskyHunter (http://www.muskyhunter.com) and Muskies101 (http://www.muskies101.com). For specific questions and inqueries contact Andrew Golden at [email protected], or via phone at 847/989-9271. We welcome all donations, contributions at the on-line auction, and hope to see as many of you as possible at Lake Oukachee on October 30th!

Posts: 5874 | My wife is reproducing this watercolor of Kyle, as I choose to remember him, and will be framing it. I'm thinking maybe use it as a traveling trophy, with room for nameplates on the bottom? What do you think, guys? Steve/Keith, got any ideas for a frame? 8X10 picture sized? I'll donate the funds to cover. Let me know. Edited by Shep 9/13/2004 2:18 PM Attachments ---------------- Kyle Watercolor.JPG (159KB - 151 downloads)
