| I was at my local spot today and I had 2 poles. I throw out a night crawler on 1 rod while I work lures on my musky rod. I just caught a fat 24" catfish on the night crawler. I was getting a lot of action on that pole and decided to set down the musky rod and man the crawler rod. After a few minutes I looked down and saw this fish swimming right off shore. It stunned me for a second then I thought that was just a musky. It wasn't very big and I think that's why it took me a second to realize what it was. I grabbed my musky rod which had a Boucher Chartruesse Bucktail and flipped it up river infront of the musky. I cranked my reel twice and this fish hit so hard and fast it was amazing. I think the fish hit the front of the bucktail and was gone as fast as it happened. The next hour was a blurr, I never casted and retrieved so much, I fished unitl dark and complete exhaustion. Another thing I noticed, after the musky cruised by I quit getting hits on the crawler rod for the next few hours. I went on to catch 3 bass on the crawler and saw 2 deer. |

Make sure you have the right equipment for this first musky! Use the right weight line, have a good "musky net", like a Frabil or Beckman with the treated bags, pliers, bolt cutters, jaw spreaders, ect......... Be ready, and your release will go smooth! |

Location: Madtown, WI | AWESOME!!!! Nothing like getting fired up over these fish!
The guys above have great suggestions...but don't forget the CAMERA!! If your lucky enough to have a timer on it either sit it on the motor or a butt seat if you have one...(while this is going on I have the fish in the water in my big beckman net, handle secured under the strapped down drivers seat) hit the timer button, grab the fish and smile, then drop her back in the water for another day!!!! Defininately need a pic of that first fish!!!
Good luck!!
