I have a friend selling a Tuffy boat. He said that it was "like an 1989" and that it was 15 and half feet long. He did not know the model type. It comes with a 1999 or 2000 Honda 4-stroke 40HP tiller, a trollijng motor, depth finder, trailer and cover. He says that price should be about $4300- $4500. Let me know if this is good deal.

Sounds like a Walleye Rampage. Is it a V hull, or sponson hull? I sold my 1991 3 years ago for $3700. The hull was renewed by Tuffy, looked like new. It had a 91 25 Merc 2 stroke, 12V TM in front, X-85, GlobalNav 310, and an X-70 up front. New cover and tires. The boat was in very good condition.

Now, depending on the condition, this boat could be worth that much, mostly because of the newer 4 stroke.

That sounds about right. I looked it up for you on the books.

Motor 1999 40hp Honda high retail- $3,035.00 Low $2800.00
Walleye rampage boat, high retail $1300.00 --------

I believe if the motor is in excellent working condition this is a value. Especially considering the price for brand new ones. The boat will do you fine. Good Luck

BTW, I really liked my Walleye Rampage. Had it for over 10 years, and had it some rough stuff on Bago and LOTW. No problem. Wish I would have had the 40 HP max on it, though. That 25 was ok for me and the wife, but when I went out with Brian Major on LOTW, I had to scoot to the front to get her on plane!

Is this enough boat to fish bigger water? I fish Leech sometimes. I understand that I can NOT be out in 3 foot whitecaps, but what about normal Leech conditions?

Had the Rampage out on Bago in some of the worst it had to offer. This boat handled the big waves very nicely. Now, I know that Honda 40 probably weighs a little more than my 25 2 Stroke, but the added HP should be a big advantage. I'd take that boat out in just about anything I'd take my new Lund 1700 Angler. It was a really nice boat, just got too small for me with the family.

I have a '83 Rampage 160 xt. I have had it out in 3 footers several times. Just make sure your gear is stored good so the rods don't bounce around and don't go full throttle into the waves.. Mines a tiller so I also reccomend having your rain suit handy in 3 footers as you will get wet.... I have a carb upgraded 40 evinrude on mine... (should be like 50-52hp with upgraded carbs), I get an average of 33mph out of it with a 15" prop with cupped blades, pretty quick for a 16' fiberglass tiller.. 4 Stroke Honda may be a bit slower I would think...

Here is the "new" information. I have decided against this boat at this time. He said that he will try and sell it, but it might be spring. I told him that I would "negoiate" with the wife until spring and see if she gives in and the price his goes down. He started at $4300 when he first told me about and went to $5000 after taling to dealers and checking the internet, what a "friend" I'm not making a big mistake passing at this time am I?

I checked it's a 1989 Tuffy Walleye Rampage. It has a one year old Fishmark? 320 depthfinder, stainless steel prop, spare aluminum prop, rod holders, livewell, new bilge pump, anchor and rope, repainted shorlander trailer with a lifetime license. The motor is a Honda 40 horse BF40A I bought it in September 1999 and had to order it. So it probably is a 2000 but I am not sure. I change oil and filter in it every spring. Wonderful moter, never a snitch of a problem (knock on wood). According to the NADA book and the guy At West End Sports in Red Wing ( he checked the blue book this A.M.) He felt $5,000.00 was a fair price.
