Posts: 129 | We fished Minnetonka today. The surface was 59 degrees about 6:30 a.m. and warmed into the low 60s throughout the day. A couple of the bays were clear, but a number of them were green and kind of slimy. Would anyone know if they have turned over? Also, if that is true, would I be better off polaying golf tomorrow? Bear in mind I am a terrible golfer. How long does it take a lake to stabilize after turnover? Thanks for the suggestions, Tom

I moved from Mpls. before the Muskies in Minnetonka really took off, but if I remember it's like a bunch of different lakes. I'd fish the shallower areas that don't thermocline. A friend emailed me that he got a 49 incher Thursday there. I'd forget golfing (good or bad) SV

I don't think there is any turnover happening just yet, a few weeds are dying and that is coloring the water in some of the bays but if you move around you will find most of the lake is clear and fishable.

Posts: 155 Location: North Metro | I am even wondering if the lake did stratify this year. With the water staying so cold for so long, I am curious to know if we had enough sustained hot weather to create a thermocline? If there is not much stratifying, then turnover is not the "BIG EVENT" that so many guys make it out to be. Fish Tonka like a bunch of smaller, connected lakes anyhow and there could be bays and smaller areas that would be dynamite when the deep big lake may not be so hot. I am wondering if turnover is an all too often used excuse for not getting on fish. I guess I don't really know, but enjoy speculating. Any thoughts?

Posts: 259 Location: Alexandria, MN | A lake like Minnetonka could have everything from pre to post turnover at the same time. It really is just a bunch of smaller lakes joined together. Each part will be doing it's own thing. I don't think many lakes developed much of a thermocline this year, so turnover should be very minor. Good Luck! Steve
