| I'm heading up to LOTW for my first time out of Morson the week of September 4th for a muskie slam. Since I haven't crossed the border before, I was wondering if any of you could tell me what kind of restrictions are in place at the border as far as what you can bring across. Specifically I was wondering about food (fruit, vegies, meat), gas (can you bring extra cans of gas), bait, alkohol (I have heard only a case of beer or 1 liter of booze per person). Also, anybody willing to give a first timer a little info on general fishing areas in the Sabaskong area? We are going out in a houseboat and will be beaching it and then going out from there. Any suggestions on areas to park the boat with access to good fishing in a small (16ft) boat? Thanks in advance. | |||

| The border check point people like it if you joke around with them a little bit. I think it kind of breaks up the monotony of the day. | |||

Posts: 285 | Limits I am familiar with include: 1 case of beer per adult, otherwise approx $9 tarrif on extra. 1 carton of cigarettes per adult No oranges No steaks (I suspect) no ground beef I think there have been other discussions on the board, so look into archives or do a search for border Canada and see if someone covered things more thoroughly. | You also can't bring potatoes into Canada- some bug thing going on. Otherwise all they will ask is where you're from, where you are going and for how long, do you have any alcohol, tobacco , or firearms. It should go pretty smooth. Depending on the situation I think Canada is doing some random inspections, so you may get pulled to the side- my Dad did when we went up in July. Shouldn't be any problem bringing in extra gas, I do it all the time and they never ask about that. One thing the US customs is doing is to X-Ray your boat if it is covered. There's a machine that you drive through and it x-rays you as you drive through- checking for weapons and bombs. Whatever you do don't joke about that kind of stuff!!

| I agree I wouldn't joke with them about anything. Yes sir, no sir, 3 bags full sir. I did take steaks up when we went in May. No potatoes or firewood is allowed. Since this is a Muskie site we won't talk about worm bedding. But if we did they crawlers must be in bedding NOT dirt. I have also heard no onions but have never been asked about them. Posts: 578 Location: Sheboygan Falls, WI | 1) If you are wearing sunglasses at the time, take them off before you get to the border crossing. 2) Do not be on a cell phone when you are going through customs. 3) Uncover your boat before you cross and then put it back on after you have gone through. 4) If you are taking a son or daughter who is a minor, have their birth certificate and a notorized letter from your wife/their mother giving you permission to take them across the border. 5) Having your birth certificate or a passport can make things go more smoothly. We did not get asked for ours las week, but I was prepaired with mine. 6) Do not screw around/kid around or be laughing, even while in line near the building. There are eyes watching you!! 7) If there is a jokester in your group and they cannot behave, have them cross in their own vehicle otherwise be prepared for the rubber glove treatment. They do not like people who are like that. 8) Even if the boarder crossing person is a nice looking lady, keep your comments to yourself until you are across and you are out of ear shot. They do not like sexual comments. A group found out the hard way. Just a few suggestions, Chuck | ||

Posts: 561 Location: Monee, Illinois | I was going up to play a Canadian Golf Tour event, a buddy of mine was also spose to play in the event. He is a smart ass sometimes and made a wrong comment at the boarder and needless to say never made it to the tournament. DO NOT JOKE WITH THEM.... pgaschulz

They would just as soon turn you back as let you in. You are dealing with international agents here and as mentioned they have zero sense of humor on the job. I would bring a berth certificate for all people in the car or a passport. They might have you pull over and do some kind of form (I forgot what it is called) for the boat and trailer. I got one last year for crossing over and it is good for one year. For the form all I needed was the boat and trailer registration. We took 6 5gallon cans full of extra gas in our boat on a week long Quebec trip and they didn't say anything. I think one of the parties in our group was asked if they were full. I think they would have preferred that we buy Canadian gas but it was way cheaper in the states. Ours was a Pike and Walleye trip and we released all the pike and ate all the waleye, so we brought no fish back. I think if you plan to bring any fish home there are regs for leaving them identifiable or somthing like that. We didn't worry or have any hassles on what kinds of food we brought so I can't help there. Funny country (imho) but a beautiful place to vacation and enjoy some unbelievable outdoor recreation. Good luck finding a hog!

| I spent the summer crossing back back and forth from Minnesota to Canada and believe that much on the information about meat and vegtables is out of date. You should call the resort or the border crossing station and get your questions answered. | |||

| If somone in your group has had a OWI in the last 10 years be prepared for them to possibly have trouble getting in or get in at all if they check your history. Bear | |||
