Just picked one up and wondering what you guys do, if anything, to the hook configuration. I'll be swapping out both stock trebles for 3/0 Eagle Claws. Do you guys 'stick' the rear treble or let it hang? Primarily going to use the Invader in areas where we've moved fish. Thoughts? THANKS, and goo luck this wknd.

I was sticking the rear trebel into the rubber ass, now I shrink tube both trebels.

I did not invent this modification, but I like it so I will share.

I take some HEAVY wire leader material and tie it to the first hook eye. Then I weave it so it sort of jogs through the back hook eye. I take off the back hook. Then I extent the wire straight out the back an inch or so (don't have the bait in front of me). Then at the end of the wire I do the typical circle tie-up like you would on a leader. Then attach the hook here.

This places the hook about a little less than half way back in the bait and really spreads out the hooks. This does not affect the action of the bait.

GMG,
Where do you buy your shrink tubing material?

I found shrink tube in the electrical section of my hardware store. You can get it at auto parts stores too but the assortment had tubes too big and too small. The stuff I got seemed to fit well over the hook and split ring, I think it was for 18 AWG and cost less than three bucks. Now, this may sound like I know what I'm doing, wrong! I kept looking in lure making catalogues until Mr. Jonesi straightened me out. thanks , Steve. m

Here is a link to Tim Kelly's Shallow Invader modification (with good photos):

I have tried this and it works well.... however I have resorted to simply sticking the rear hook in the tail. Sometimes the extra hardware makes the lure sink (especially if you tinkered elsewhere in the lure).
