Location: Montgomery,Illinois | I finally got to get out on the chain yesterday for the first time on open water..... I met up with a buddy that lives on the lake for a few hours in the evening.... He told me to make a few casts off the dock while he got some stuff for the boat and then we would head out... Within 5 casts i was hooked up but only for a few seconds after this i was pumped i thought for sure with all the pleasure boaters it was going to be a skunk and a half... I hooked the first fish on a 6in Jake we headed to our first spot which was an underwater point and i kept the same bait on while my buddy said he was gonna stick with a smaller bait for walleye and then he went into how most guys seem to hook more muskies fishing for walleyes and such.... Within 5 min after his speech he yells fish on!! I look at his rod doubled over but it seemed like he had a bass or walleye because it wasnt taking much drag.... All of a sudden about a 40-42 in musky comes to the surface sees the boat and takes off now the battle begins he regains some line and the fish comes out of the water and throws the bait.....I was satisfied with hooking 2 fish in the little time we fished and it was a fun first time on the chain i will definatly be back..... Also on a bad note we found about a 48in floater but it had been dead for a while and didnt see any obvious signs of death......
