Posts: 1939 Location: Black Creek, WI | I'm sitting here at work wondering why I am even here. In two days I'll begin an 8 day musky odyssey.... and I am the most useless employee in the office today. What is the point of even being here (ha ha)???? Just can't get my mind off the fishing that is to come.... Anyone else suffer from this problem??? Is there a remedy? jlong

Posts: 1996 Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | The worst situation is having a big trip coming up and having it slow at work. Every conceivable situation runs through your head and at times I think you mentally over prepare. Truth be known I am fairly useless at work today too, I saw a very good fish on Pelican last night and am just biding my time before I can go after her this afternoon before the storms roll in. I too am in the useless category.

| You are not alone, I have the same problem right now. I even have a hard time falling asleep at night. I start to become consumed with anticipation around two weeks before its time to leave. Norm is right, it is worse when things are slow. Thank god for the internet. I think the only remedy is to satisfy the NEED and hope you can be productive when you return. | |||

Posts: 2515 Location: Waukesha & Land O Lakes, WI | I love this topic. Every time I know I'm heading up north, I'm clock watching and devising schemes to get out of my office early. If Gander didn't already know I'm fishing a tourny this weekend, I'd call in sick there tonight! I get NO work done on the days I'm heading out. I've been known to sharpen hooks, replace trebels and play with map software instead of doing what I'm supposed to.....hell, Casual Fridays are Casual Thursdays for me.

Posts: 1245 Location: Madtown, WI | I struggle with this quite often. I know if I wasn't so preoccupied with this sport I would be a lot more sucessful at work, but heck, thats too much work!! I like work/life balance myself... My favorite quote is: "I work to live, not live to work!" I am on the water in 5 hours and 9 minutes! Cory

Posts: 1769 Location: Algonquin, ILL | Guys, BE GLAD YOU HAVE A JOB !!!!! I have been looking since January and as of this morning I have applied for 236 different positions, There are a lot of people looking for work and then add to that folks that just don't like thier jobs and want something new. So I can understand what you are all saying ( I have been there also ) just be glad you have a job

Posts: 1939 Location: Black Creek, WI | I hear ya loud and clear JohnMD. That's exactly my concern..... that my daydreaming and lack of productivity due to this dreaded musky addiction might one day COST me my job. I need the paycheck to fund my impulse musky lure purchases, musky fishing vacations, etc. etc. let alone the important stuff like the mortgage, food, kids clothes, etc etc. From my employers point of view this musky addiction probably isn't any worse than a chemical addiction. I wonder if the IS dept. is watching me surf the net right now??? Oh oh... I'm getting paranoid now..... Ha ha. jlong

Posts: 7123 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Work just keeps away the pain of not being able to fish. I really cant fish anytime soon, and havent lately, so at least work keeps me busy. And since MuskieFIRST for me IS work, I'm always working......lucky me.

| Slamr... how goes the attempt at quitting smoking? Does work ease the pain of a nicotine fit? | |||

Posts: 459 Location: New Baden IL | Slamr, I'm no lawyer but if you say that you are going to attempt to kill the girlfriend on Monday, that sounds premeditated to me.....HA. Good luck with the smokes, I quit dipping Skoal last November...it's a bear, but you can do it. What I finally had to do was throw away all the cans I had, and not buy any more. PERIOD! If you dont have them, you cant use them. It was 2 weeks of headaches from wanting the nicotine, but after that I had it licked. Rod

Posts: 3242 Location: Racine, Wi | I actually left after a half day before my last trip, as I was the most useless POS there was. Even worse, is having a couple of days of PERFECT musky weather, and being stuck in the office. I wonder if I can get them to stock muskies in the ponds around here. lol

Posts: 366 | Screwing off at work the last couple days before a muskie trip is an art form! Now leaving for LOTW, for eight weeks, two hours after your last final of the semester can be quite treacherous. Thankfully I was able to, just barely, keep my head together enough not to destroy 14 weeks of bookworming. I had a physics problem with pulleys and a cable and couldn't get past whether or not I needed an extra spool of tuff line before I left.

Posts: 4266 | Hell, my mind is never on my work, so I don't have that problem. I'm not going up to Cass until the 11th, and I've got lists of stuff to pack laying around the house and at work. Last week for lunch I drove the truck down to our intake pump station and threw a dozen new gliders that I made in Lake Michigan..........I think I had a follow Beav

Posts: 341 | Ha we all think alike... I just logged in muskie first to escape the pains of work and was thinking the same thoughts....I keep playing in my mind walking out of here and chasing muskies for a living or buying a hog and heading out west with no destination in mind. Good thing I have a wife and a 1 year old to bring me back to reality or I would be the guy with my own bar stool up north chasing a dumb fish and spending tons on money on equipment I think I need. To live in simpler times!!!!

Posts: 561 Location: Monee, Illinois | Well I am so bad that I do not even attempt to go to sleep! I leave at night now. I don't care if its 2am or whatever I am on the road. I get so wired!!! Plus having a new boat JUST KILL'S me more. It sits at the golf club looking at me. I find myself driving down to the Cart Building where I keep it just to see it and to mess around. Going to the local tackle shop and spending money just to make me feel like I am fishing. I try to go once a week or twice a week. After work or my day off (luck to get one this time of year). I have to work all day tomarrow at the club 5am-Dark 30. But good news Jimmy Buffett tomarrow night and fishing in the AM.. So good times are coming......... pgaschulz P.S. Fast time in my life the last two hours on the water (When I know I have to leave) Longes time of my life the last two hours at work (When I know I can't leave)

Posts: 341 | Ha thats not a bad idea just blowing off sleep altogether. I'm the same way, on every fishing trip I'm the tired fisherman the first day out due to restless sleep. I found a remedy however, it's a page out of Elvis's book but not as extreme...Tylenol PM....that little blue pill knocks you out!!! Great after late night hockey too!! Just be ready the next day for a blue duece though. Edited by muskycore 8/26/2004 8:03 PM

Posts: 3242 Location: Racine, Wi | The last trip I went on with Kly, we drove up to Vilas after work, had a couple of beers at the local tavern, went to the campsite and set up camp at 2 am, (yes the tents were crooked in the morning.) We ended up getting 7 fish that morning!!!!

Posts: 5874 | Well, I am here at work, on the day that I SHOULD have been leaving for the Sab Bay Outing. I dropped off the maps with DaveJ last night, and almost was tempted to stowaway in the back of his truck! Then I talked with the Extreme One, and he was going to meet mikie, Mauser, and Lunkerhunter for a night on Pewaukee. I fell asleep watching the Olympics, and never made it out to see the boys before they left. This house buying and selling is a pain in the bass! Perhaps I can sneek up next Wednesday with the Shady One. Shady?

Posts: 1137 Location: Holly, MI | Sleeping the night before is an exercise in futility. Once I even set a hook in my sleep, woke my wife up. I putz around all evening/night fixing stuff that doesn't even need fixing in my muskie boxes. Work the day before is definatly a "what is the point"
