Subject: Selling to the big guys

Hi, I have small tackle company and I’m pondering the thought of approaching the “Big Guys” (Gander, Cabelas, Bass Pro, etc…) on carrying my baits. I’m hoping for some advice on this matter - thanks. Are they hard to approach and get into? Are they difficult to deal with? Or am I better off sticking with a few of the smaller stores (Rollies, Thorn Bro’s etc…)? Can I expect an increase in sales or is the musky market small enough that eventually anybody/everybody will find them from the smaller guys?

Thanks for any help,
Mike

They can be potentially overwelming by demanding quantities of baits that may exceed your production capabilities. They also may demand pricing from you that may not be financially beneficial to you. Unless you are ready to kick out thousand of baits, teaming up with a distributor for shops in the state is your best option.

If you have UPC's and proof of insurance you are capable of getting into big boxes. Be prepared though, you could get overwhelmed.

My words exactly...becareful of what you wish for! Wausau has probally the best Musky selection out of any Gander. Take a look if you get a chance. You'll need a good supply to keep up with all the stores we have in the mid-west.

Speaking of which....Justin...do you guys have any Dunwright Dancers in Blue Gill? Drop me an email or something about colors, I'm thinking of picking up a couple next weekend.

Thanks for the help guys. I have a huge policy already (I serve medical markets too) and can probably make 500+ baits a week if needed. I need to work on my packaging a little to incorporate the bar-coding, but I do have that capability here.

Gander Mt Guide, can you do a fellow musky hunter a solid and drop me a lead?

Thanks,

Thanks for the compliment Steve. I know some good painters if you can’t get Cady to stay at the bench. How can you blame him though? – I’d rather be pukin in the lake too.
