I just got a new fishing partner this weekend!!! His name is Palo, and is the smartest 7 week old I have ever seen. (accept for his inability to get up the back stairs. LOL)

He even went fishing already, although, I missed 2 fish with him in the boat, so we'll have to work on the luck factor.

Joel, your new fishing partner is a real dog if you ask me. Cute one too. I hope Palo becomes your good luck charm.

He is definitely gonna be a big boy. His grandparents were HUGE, although the parents weren't quite as big.

I can definitely see where the labs could chew everything in sight. Just have to keep a good eye on him while I can, and make sure to give him good things to chew on. He had a blast at my parents house playing in the lake. Man, I have never seen so much energy!!
House insurance= Check
Shoes under lock and key= Check
Puppy training this weekend Definitely!!!!!

Hooker hit the nail on the head! LOCK IT UP! I have a 1 yr. old chocolate lab, and she knows its fun time when I get home from work and hit the shower. Before I got smart and put her out after work she got 1 pair of Birks, 1pair work boots, some tip up strike sensors, both TV remotes. She also has a "stash spot" where she puts stuff she "steals" from me. Aside from the growing pains they are awesome companions.

my two year old lab, Knickerbocker, chewed very little - couple shoes, couple TV remotes. they seem to like things that you handle alot or smell alot like you. now he'll just try and steal stuff because he knows we'll come looking. we find him laying under the bed with the remote sitting by his feet just smiling at us.

i used a small tin can with a handful of coins in it as a de-barker/de-chewer. it really really bugged him when that rattle-bomb would start shaking or come flying his way. he learned right quick what kinds of behaviors brought out the noise-can. now, all i have to do is lighty tap the can one time and he stops in his tracks and runs over to sit by my feet. great training tool.
it also worked as a walking tool - i can let him off the leash when we walk now, just rattle my keys and he's back in a flash.

also, i got him in the boat asap. now he's happy as a clam and sleeps most of the time - until a fish makes it's way in the boat. he was finally in the boat for a muskie last weekend. super curious!

have fun, labs are awesome!

The stork recently brought me a new fishing partner too. She hasn't been in the boat yet, she's supposed to keep my wife company while I'm on the water. I think she'll be a great musky dog.
