Posts: 1137 Location: Holly, MI | I spent a good part of the day yesterday on Lake St Clair in the roughest water I have ever fished. Wind was 22 knots and gusting to 30 knots. How much is a knot? More than a mile right? Anyway we had 4+ footers and the howling winds to deal with. It rained pretty good a couple of times but most of our soaking was from spray. Lake St Clair is somewhere just over 400 sq miles of surface area with an average depth of like 10 feet. This lake churns up somthing fierce in no time. We headed on a 25 mile run to the far end of the lake where the fishing was "hot", yea..right. That end of the lake was where the wind was headed. Waves were at their best and the water was churned up from bottom to top. What is usually very clear water was like coffee with cream, there was so much sand sturred up that visibility was an inch or two. On a lake where there is usually hundreds of boats we saw none for long periods of time. Got lots of smart bumps from bashing against the boat trying to walk/fish in the waves. It was the toughest fishing I have ever attempted out there. Last year I watched a waterspout touch down a few times off in the distance while fishing. Pics of waves never look like much for some reason. Here is an attempt to show the water but it sure looks tame compared to being there. The other pic is of the Detroit city skyline in the distance from the middle of the lake with my digital camera zoomed in as far as it would. Look close by the horizon, you can see the Renaissance Center. Got any pics of tough fishing or severe weather you fished in? At least a story. Posts: 1137 Location: Holly, MI | We didn't have much choice but to give it a try at least. It was our MatchFishing scheduled day against Mehabeeb. It is a tough lake to schedule in advance to fish. The night before there was some Major lightning/thunder storms and a ton of rain. We were very lucky to hook up with 3 fish and land 2 of them even if they were small. The planer boards were catching some major air, looked like jetskiiers. I wouldn't usually run boards in that kind of water but I'm glad we did. All 3 hookups were off the boards. Try fighting a fish and keeping the planerboard lines out of the prop when the wind wants to push you in circles. Your netman is at the wheel trying to keep things under controll. | ||

| Looks somewhat like Pewaukee lake at 3:00 on Sunday afternoon. You can't see the jet skies or ski boats though. | |||
