Posts: 3242 Location: Racine, Wi | Any of you guys ever fish water around Balsam Lake? I know there are a few fish in Balsam, but what are some lakes that you would recommend I venture out to arund that area? I will be up there the 2nd week of Aug for a few days, and I want to do some exploring.

Posts: 3242 Location: Racine, Wi | Bout how far away are those two? I have heard of both, and would love to fish them at some point. I'll start studying up. Balsam is a cool lake indeed. I have only been to our friends cabin once, but they want me to come up and show them how to fish it. So I will spend a morning or so finding some spots for them, then it's time to find the slime.

| Balsam is basically between Deer and Bone. I don't think Balsam has what you would call a "fishable" population of muskies. There are some there but if you want numbers go to Deer or Bone or Wapogassot (near Amery) or the Apple River Flowage if you feel like fishing a river for 1/2 day for something different. Deer is about 7 miles from the river right on Highway 8, bone is about 20 miles NE of Deer. Bone seems a bit more fickle than Deer and is about 2x as big, so maybe you want to hit deer first. Both lakes have good populations, both lakes have similar structure except that bone has more rockpiles and islands, and both lakes get about as much pressure as anywhere you will find. On the weekends you can expect to see a line of boats working prime spots. Good luck. | |||

Posts: 3242 Location: Racine, Wi | Thanks guys! I really appreciate it. I wonder if I could fish them all??!! hmmmm. That might be tough. I will only be there from Friday to Sunday, but I am going by myself (and with the puppy) so I may be able to do a 2 hour stint at a bunch of lakes on the way home. Thanks again!
