| OK, So I broke down and bought a couple of Wabulls and was tossing them last night for the first time. Aside from the clear coat starting to come off one of them after 10 mins of use, I liked what I saw. They are some heavy pieces of wood.
I didn't get any fish on them, but while working 'em I began to wonder if fish throwing the lure is a problem for them because they are so heavy. Can anyone comment on this?
My forearms got a good workout - that's for sure. |

| i've managed a 44.5 and a 41 so far this year on my Wabull and both fish absolutely smashed the lure by T-boning it. they were very well hooked on the center treble with the bait held broadside in their mouth. no problem with them throwing it.
also, my bait completely lost it's clearcoat pretty early on which i thought might effect things. it hasn't. it still runs great, and the second fish was caught after the "change". i was going to send it back (Steve said he'd repaint/coat it) but now i think i'll just re-do it myself and experiment.
the only thing i've noticed is it's gotten a bit heavier due to the water soaking in, but i actually think that's a good thing as it drops a bit more now.

| Toss one of those all day and your back will be so hurting! 
But great to toss in heavy winds, they go a country mile!

"T" your hooks and they don't dig in much at all. It's an unfortunate side effect of having a lure that goes side-to-side. The razer sharp light wire hooks don't help that at all.
One other thing that I do is get some of your wifes clear nailpolish and cover the "smiles" between trips. Try this trick on your other jerks and jackpots as well. |

Location: Athens, Ohio | This bait is not as bad to throw as one might think. I found that, using a stiff rod, you can haul back to the 1 to 2 o'clock position, then FLIP, and let the weight of the lure do the work. It is still not a cure for throwing it all day, but it works for me. m |

| Well it's the heaviest bait I have in my box - easy to work once you get it in the water. Twitchin' large jakes gives me a rougher workout but they are easier to toss.
the two that I have drop pretty fast as they are. I don't think I'd want it to go much faster. Now to get them to land so they aren't like stones - that's the trick.
As for the clearcoat it actually flaked off, not hook smiles. I already nail polished it up. |

Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | Did you get the ones we had for sale during the shows, get them from Thornes, or are they ones that Steve did by hand?
The ones from the shows and @ Thornes were painted and hardcoated by Todd @ Phantom. He uses some type of industrial hardcoat that's even tougher then Envirotex. The ones done by Steve (or myself) were done with Envirotex. |

| i got mine straight from steve..."clearly" inadequate clearcoat.
but bottom line: if the lure's catching fish, it doesn't matter if it looks pretty or not! |

| I got mine from Crazy D's. I'm not complaining - just my notes on the bait. The bait works as I think it should. |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I worked the Wabull quite a bit during the MuskieFIRST trip on Wabigoon. Even with it's excellent weight and balance a truly BIG fish can blow it out of the water...but that's OK. I'm pretty sure many of the fish I saw wouldn't have responded to anything any smaller. I'll let Steve Jonesi explain what I mean by "fish I saw". |
