I'm still relatively new to the muskie world, what I'd like to know is what a glide bait is and how do you work it? What's the action supposed to be like, is it like walking the dog under water?

As of late, many new glide baits have hit the market.

Glide baits are supposed to "glide" from one side to another. Walk the dog, just like you said. Some glide out far, some short and quick.

Glide baits that I use often include: Gray Ghost Hounder, Magic Maker, Phantom, Wabull, Hughes River, Manta.

Like I said, some are effective with long glides while others like the Gray Ghost Hound and the Magic Maker work better with quick snaps.

A simple quick tap downward with the rod tip will get these lures in motion. Remember to reel in the slack as the lure is running form side to side, you don't to set the hooks with 3 feet of limp line!

I see a lot of people pick glide baits as their favorite. I personally haven't used many of them, but would like to have a few in the box. What are the ones that consistently produce for many of you?

Glide baits that always seem to produce for me are: Phantoms and Magic Makers. I just saw the Grey Ghost this past weekend, and it had a ton of fish up as well.

So is the Suick's considered glide baits?

Suicks wouldn't be considered glide baits. They would be more of a chop bait, where they dive and rise. You can, however make them glide from side to side with some modifications.

Just started fishing glide baits myself and love them. Manta's and Phantoms for me.

Glidebaits I like are H20 tackle's nitro and x-glide, slammer drop belly, jr's custom lures, punisher, hughes rivers, undertakers and the wabull.
