| Dr. Bruce Thornton of the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission will talk about tthe "Pewaukee Lake Drainage Basin" at the Milwaukee Chapter of Muskies Inc. meeting on Tuesday, May 25 @ 7:30 pm.
This meeting promises to be extemely informitive on the many influences on this popular urban fishery.

| Sorry I didn't get answers to either of your questions.
Dr. Thornton gave us an excellent presentation and opened our eyes to the many influences on our area waterways.
The most enlightening information was on how eurasian milfoil out grows the native species of weeds in our lakes. Because the area of the world it comes from has average lower temperatures than we have, it begins growing in water that is 5 degrees colder than our native species. This gives it a head start and a monopoly on sunshine.
It was also interesting to find out that weeds can disappear and go dormant for a period of 10-20 years and then slowly reappear. This is probably why we are beginning to see some weed growth on our northern Wisconsin lakes that were damaged by "rusty" crawfish during the 1980's.
If you ever have the chance to hear Dr. Thornton speak, I highly recommend you do it. |
