Are there any deep running jerkbaits on the market today? I mean getting deeper than 7 feet without having to add weight or without having to jerk the bait like crazy to keep it deep. I made a custom weighted suick that goes to 8-9 feet deep but it doesn't produce at all.

I think it's called the DDD. At least I use it as a Jerk Bait. This thing is awesome. Thanks to JLong for giving me some good pointers on how to work it.

I have a jerkbait made years ago by Tony Rizzo. Can't remember the name of the bait, ran very deep. I also added a lip to a suick and it worked great at deeper depths. You can buy lips at several shops, I know Thorne Bros sells a variety of lips. Best option, add weight system.

Good luck, Murph

Mark Smith(Smuttly Dog Baits) makes deep runner jerkbaits. They swing side to sise like the normal baits but run 5 to 7 feet deep, no problem. He had some at the Pittsburgh show.. But these are not baits you want for shallow applications.

Murph, I may be wrong but I think the Rizzo jerk is the Big or Giant T. I have a buddy that likes them but I never threw one. I am with Shep with the DDD.

I can keep the wabull down at least 6 feet consistently, small taps not tough to work.

The original L&L Exciter (now sold by Dick Moore) is a great deep diving pull bait (especially if you weight them or let 'em get waterlogged). Tony Rizzo won't admit it, but I believe the Exciter was his inpiration to create the Big T. Those simple dive&rise pull baits can get down deep and for some reason the fish eat them. Although I've caught many fish on weighted suicks, Exciters, etc..... I've become addicted to the more wild action of crankbaits and choose to use them as my deep diving jerkbaits.

Lot's of heavily weighted glide baits out there can reach 8 feet if you give them any kind of pause between taps. Heck, even a Jerko can work that depth pretty efficiently if you give it an occasionaly lengthy pause.

Hope that helps...

For sure the H2O tackle ripper is a jerkbait that is gets deep. I threw it in a pool demo last night and it was in the bottom withing 2 pulls. It's a great bait. The H2O tackle X-Glide is a glide bait that has a faster sink rate and can easily stay deep if you need it too.

Already mentioned is Rizzo's Big T, but there's also a Little T, which I prefer. It's the same bait cut down + a silicon skirt ..like a Squirrely Burt but with a skirt instead of a grub tail. You can pull them down to 10 ft.

I used to have several jerkbaits that bumped botom in 12 feet of water. They were called Seekers. Haven't seen any for a long time, but I might have a few bodies in the basement....I'll check. I caught more walleyes on them than muskies.

Divani, I can get it down 10ft and it will pretty much stay that deep and dive a little deeper on the pull. The small daddies 7-10 ft. I would like to try one of weighted big daddies.
They sound interesting.

Beaver,

If you have any of the 6" Seekers lying around, drop me a line.

Thanks.
