Posts: 136 | Get involved. Why is it that a lot of us (Myself included) talk a good game but when it comes down to it find “other” things that need more attention. So I guess I’ll start this off… A group of anglers in Minnesota needs your help. Now this group is actually a Muskies Inc. chapter but that should be a little importance. You can help them even if you are not a Muskies Inc. member. In fact if you are NOT a member they really need your help. Here is a chance to make a difference. The Brainerd Chapter of Muskies Inc. along with representatives of the MN DNR has partnered up to produce a informational video to promote Muskies to the general public and local Lake associations. Pro Walleye Angler Ted Takasaki will narrate this video to further the impact that all species of fish co-exist with Muskies. Unfortunately after appealing to MI chapters and receiving funds from many of they are still short funds to produce this video. They are considering doing a scaled down version. Why? Why can’t all of us get on board with this whether a MI member, Billy’s Musky club, or just a regular Musky guy and make sure this is done top notch? Why can’t all websites, magazines, groups, individuals, states, Musky angler everywhere get involved and make sure this is done correctly? This tape isn’t just about one person, one club or chapter, one lake, one state. It can be about everyone and for everyone. The internet is very powerful if used correctly. Right now I challenge you to contact your local club, friends, neighbors, grammas, or your own wallet and do what you can to help out. An online auction? A general bank account set up? What can WE do? Please post your ideas, or email them to the guys below... Musky fishing is growing fast and we all need to work to try to keep up with it. Not fight about past records, holds, who's better, or whatever the arguement of the day is. Steve One More Cast... I have included the original comments by Tim Schulke of the Brainerd Lakes Chapter of Muskies Inc as follows: The Brainerd Lakes Chapter of Muskies Inc. #24 is currently working with local DNR representatives to create a video that will enhance education and partnering efforts with local Lake Associations and the general public. The focus of the video will be on netting and surveying results on an area lake where walleye, panfish, etc. are thriving and Muskie have been introduced. DNR management tactics of the Muskie, walleye, and monitoring of the other species have maintained a successful balance. We believe this is vital information in order to promote expansion of the resource into new bodies of water. The BLC has currently contracted with a local firm to film the survey (in progress) on the water. We will also provide personnel to the DNR and assist with the actual net pulling. Our intent is to create a “fully produced” video that all of the MI chapters, DNR, and other entities may benefit from that is truly a case study from a “stocked lake”. This endeavor is not cheap, but is one the DNR believes will be a successful tool. Our chapter has committed to the filming and volunteers and are looking to other chapter’s to help with the producing, and reproduction. In return all chapters will receive a copy for their use. If your chapter is interested, please contact Tim Schulke at [email protected] or (218)851-1301 or Jeff Young at [email protected] or (218)821-3669 Thanks and we look forward to your help! Posts: 32958 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Thick one, You have my attention, but I have a couple questions. What is the budget for this film? What are the costs to shoot and edit the video, and what are the proposed rough cut and reproductions costs, and will the video be VHS or DVD? Need to have an idea of the scope of the project so the possibilities can be explored.

Posts: 136 | correcto Andrew! Just a quick note Andrew and I have talked about this over the last few weeks and had worked out where M1st would help out in anyway possible with this! If my post points finger at anything or anyone other than myself it is not intended. We both thought this would be a great opportunity for the Musky world to put aside some differnces and perhap rally around one cause. MuskieFIRST has offered to host an auction, help with fundraising etc. and work equally with whomever for the betterment of the Musky angling everywhere. That's pretty cool. I'm sure the Brainerd chapter will let us all know what they need.

| Thanks again Cady- The project: informational video to promote expansion of the muskie resource into non-native lakes. Objective: to help educate the general public (lake associations) by providing factual data relating to actual survey data, film footage of the fishery; substantiating that a well managed resource can co-exist with other native species. This item will not be for sale, and will be available to all organizations interested in exploring the expansion opportunities. The final product currently intended for DVD, however, VHS can be made available very easily upon request. Budget options: $3500 low quality production - $6000 for high quality production (15-20 min.) $800 covered cost of raw footage collection. Remaining value to cover, studio time, editing and production. No reproduction budgeted as of yet - need to get the final product. We believe, if funded and produced correctly, the video will sell itself and reproduction costs will be covered due to people wanting a copy. (Donations may be required) Currently we have (unofficially) about $3000 raised, we need another $3000. As mentioned, if someone or organization can step up and help with an auction - we ALL will benefit. Our chapter has put in extensive man hours donating weekends and vacation time to assist the DNR with the survey process. We could use some help from others to raise $'s for the project. Let us know what you can do. Donations can be sent to: Payable: Brainerd Lakes Chapter of Muskies, Inc. memo line: Informational video Tim Schulke 4169 Northern Oak Drive South Baxter, MN 56425 [email protected] | |||
