| I think I may have seen it on the site before, however, does anyone out there have a checklist of things to do - things to make sure of before heading out - I just got my first baot and with the opener this Saturday - I'm kinda nervous I might forget to do something. Thanks |

Location: Racine, Wi | Make sure that all the electrics are working on the boat, and the trailor. It will be nice to know this before you hit the water.
Rain gear as well, just in case.

- first aid kit / band aids at a minimum
- fire extinguisher
- cell phone / marine radio
- licenses / registration / launch permits
- if you have a gps unit and are on new/large water, set a waypoint for your launch ramp.
- drinking water
- prep your boat BEFORE getting in line to launch. otherwise you'll have a lot of bitchy people behind you - esp. for the opener.
- try to remember where your trailer/tow veh. axles are relative to the waterline when your boat floats, it will help you when you load up at the end of the day.
- Take your time launching, don't let the ppl behind you in line distract you & don't be afraid to ask for help. Everyone goes through the same first time anxiety.
- Have fun and good luck.

Extra Trolling Motor Prop, Nut and Pin.

| If you carry a spare tire for your trailer (I hope you do) make sure you also have the tools to change a tire on the road. This includes a jack to lift the trailer and a wheel nut wrench to remove the damaged wheel/tire. Not all wheel nuts are the same size and your trailer may be different than your truck(my truck lug wrench won't fit my trailer's wheel nuts). Make sure you also have the tools to remove the spare from the trailer mount. If you have a locking device on your spare, don't leave the key at home! I drove around last season with a spare tire but no tools to change it!!! |

| lake map and COMPASS!!!!!. Last season, after dark, I was caught in a light drizzle that turned into drizzle and fog. I was on a small lake that I know very well. Couldn't see 10' beyond the boat, even with the Q-beam. Lake FULL of timber and some rocks. Had to bump my way to shore and then follow it around to the landing. Took at least 2 hours. Didn't have a map to the lake, but with a compass I could have saved myself a lot of time. And bumping into timber and rocks for 2 hours.
Hide a compass in yer boat, you may need it badly some day. Or night. |
