Hi Guys, I just broke my old standby and they are not made anymore. I ordered a St Croix premier 7'6" 1 to 3 oz MH today to replace it. Does anyone use this rod ?? also for throwing big bucktails what is your fav rod? Kingfisher

I have a 7'2" St. Croix and love it, but it's too heavy for most bucktails I toss. I use it for spinnerbaits, though. My current bucktail rod is a 7' Cortland with a modified/tricked out Ambassadaur 5500AB reel. I almost always toss Hirsch's Original Ghosttails or Bucher 700s.

Tell you what, those inexpensive Cortlands, sweet rods and send 'em back no matter the problem, are the best deal out there right now. Never had to send one back, though, unlike my Fenwick HMGs.

Just got an All Star 8 footer and its awesome, I would highly suggest it and at 110$ is more reasonable then some of the other 8' I have priced.

I just got a Maina 8'6" and it is great. It is going to be a joy to toss all season long. I see it being used for a majority of my presentations.

I purchased a Thornes Diamondback Bucktail 8' rod this year and couldn't be happier with it.

Light as a feather with plenty of backbone.

Bit on the spendy side but what isn't these days.

I use a St Croix PM76MH for all sorts of applications. It's a great jerk/glider rod.
My favorite bucktail rod is the 8' St Croix Avid, followed closely by an 8' Premier.

Boy you hit that one on the head, Ranger. I bought one of them last summer in International Falls and fell in love with it. I also think they are the best bucktail rod out there for the money. I may have to buy me another on the way up. I heard they were designed my Mike Thorne after he left Thorne Bros. and went to work for Cortland. I believe Thorne Bros. sold to new owners some time ago. If you have any additional scoop on these rods let us know.

I like the rod you just broke. I also have a 7ft croix in the 2oz model I really like as well.

Another vote for Thorne Bros. Diamondback. I love the 7'6" M for the lightest bucktails and small baits. The 7'6" MH can throw a lot of baits and is great for large bucktails, small - medium gliders, cranks, topwater, etc. But they're costly, so it's good to see the other suggestions here.

I ran the 8' St.Croix Premier all last year for hair and absolutly loved it. Long casts and effortless figure 8's. I used it from musky candy to big eagle tails. Can't go wrong with a St.Croix

Another vote for the 7'2" St. Croix. I just love mine but I got a 7' Shamano that feels very good. I use it for heaver lures or lures that have a lot of pull to them ( cranks , heaver bucktails, Rad Dogs, ect.).

Just my $.02 worth

St.Croix's Premier and Avid 8' sticks are great. For heavier spinners, the Avid rules.

Gander's IM8 Pro Select 8' is not bad for $70.00 to $80.00.
