I want to add a couple of gliders to the box before the season opens. What are some of your favs and why. You can leave out the amma bammas and HR. I can't justify $40.00 for one bait.

One of my favorites is the Slammer drop belly, one of the BEST I have ever used.
I just recently checked out the ones made by Madd Dogg lures, pretty nice action.

Love the Slammers too, but the Smuttly Dog made by Mark Smith is very comparable to a 'Bama and at this point about 10 bucks or so cheaper.Haven't caught anything on one yet, but I've got a redhorse pattern that has worked it's way into the rotation.Nice slide/glide with the wiggle too.Pastikas in Hayward stocks them as well as the Slammer Drop Belly. We've been catching a lot of 3-6 lb. bass this spring on the Slammers.Lots of fun. Another huge vote for the Slammers, I just love them to bits. A real confidence bait. Nice to hear good things about the Smuttly's, I have a dog that is waiting to be used and a Pup and a drop belly on their way to me. The build quality is fantastic.

Where can I get a Slammer drop belly? Are there any retail store in the GB / Appleton area that carry them?

Thanks, Grass,

I live in Appleton area and I do not know of anybody that has the Slammer dropbelly. Smokeys, Guides choice, and I think Rollie and Helens has them. Along with Bill's website.
The Slammer drop belly is a excelent choice (got first fish of the season last year on one), for obvious reasons I like my Nitro also.

Grass, as far as drop bellies go...the Magic Maker is nice bait. i has a little bigger profile than the Slammer drop felly. I love gliders, i throw them too much but the magic makers really darts and turns nice. my favorite. I think Magic Makers go from $22-$26...get one and you wont be disappointed.

I like the Slammers, but I am really looking forward to using the Nitro by H20 this summer! I have heard many a good thing about them, and the paint jobs are nice with a rock hard finish. They also come in 3 sizes I believe, which is two more than Slammer.

Grass,

I bought a Smuttly Dog @ Pastika's after talking with Rich there. Great construction. Only time will tell...

I like both Slammer's and Nitro's and you can get one of each for the price of a HR.

Two other excellent choices are the Dancing Shad and Dead Head (widowmaker). Dead heads have a great wobble that really get's em' goin' but take a little practice working them. You can work the Dancin' Shad w/ ease. Bloody Mary is a favorite color. Definite fish attractors and catchers! As with any heavier wood bait keep the fish under water to avoid head shakes that invetibly toss your lures back into the lake. I'll add a larger and sharper hook to them as well along w/ super split rings (Bucher) to enhance their hookability. Finally, at least 80# test superline is mandatory to avoid breakoffs on backlashes and related problems.

Magic Makers are great! They can be worked slow or fast. They do have a problem with the clear coat, but have heard from the new owner that this will be improved. He gave me a few prototypes with the new coating, so I know he is seriously looking at this. When he bought the line, I told him how good they are and the problems they have. I believe he will correct it and produce the best glide bait out there.Give them a try, very easy to work.

My vote is for the Slammer Drop Belly Glidder, and it isn't because it has a similar "drop belly" profile to me!
It is easy to work, has consistant action at a wide range of speeds, and is productive throughout the year.

I like the Cobb's Crazy shad even though I haven't caught anything on it yet.. Just the follows to the boat with this one in one weekend were enough to convince me.. Another one I like, Bagleys B flats both sizes..

Haven't had a chance to throw it yet but the Mercer Creek Chub from Smitty looks like a winner. It's nearly identical to the Gries Strikers that are no longer available. Nice looking paint jobs on them too.
