Posts: 384 Location: Eagle River, Alaska | Hey guys...if you have no interest in this discussion please don't feel obliged to read this. Not really looking for discussion just putting up an official update on how the WRMA work is going. Recently there were some articles on other musky websites which misrepresented how the work was being conducted. We just wanted anyone who is interested to know what is happening and how they can verify any of this themselves. Thanks. Brian WRMA Update April 14, 2004 First Phase Completed The WRMA is excited to announce that Visual Geometry Solutions of Oxford has completed the computer model necessary to perform an accurate and scientific photo analysis of our record muskellunge. This important development represents the successful completion of the preliminary phase of our research, and begins the subsequent in-depth photo analysis of the Spray, Johnson and O’Brien fish. As is well known to our membership, the founders of VGS, Dr Geoffrey Cross and David Liebowitz, are former researchers from Oxford University. The gentleman doing the actual photo analysis is Dr. Frederik Schaffalitzky, a current full-time professor on staff at Oxford University, who will be performing the work, although independent of the University. The reasons we value our contract with VGS so highly are simple: not only are the staff of Visual Geometry Solutions among the best in the world at what they do, but, before our contact, they had never even heard of a muskie, thereby eliminating the possibility of researcher bias. Reid Frank of Campbellville, Ontario, is heading up this department of the WRMA. Noted muskie historian Larry Ramsell, although not a WRMA member, has graciously opened his files to help us conduct the research with VGS. Contrary to what has been recently reported by the musky tabloids, I’m sure both Reid and Larry would agree that if anyone, at any time, was at all interested in the truth regarding our relationship with VGS, all he or she had to do was ask. Our newest member, Jack Schwab (a.k.a. Suckerchucker), asked, and was obviously satisfied that we are everything we said we were; his recent endorsement comes from one of our most vocal former detractors. Lastly, at this time we would like to announce that Rich Delaney, an English teacher from Oak Park, Illinois, will be taking the reins of the WRMA. Jerry Newman explains: “With my extremely busy season upon me now, I have turned the leadership position of the WRMA over to Mr. Delaney. Not only does he have the required time during the summer months, being a teacher, but he also has the expertise to lead the WRMA toward its stated goals” Muskies, Inc. “I can’t help but to believe the WRMA is on the up and up. Time and information will tell. I can assure you that MI International will not support any efforts of this group or any other group until we are satisfied that their efforts and procedures are unbiased and fair.” -Perry Smith, late February, 2004 The WRMA would like to thank the entire Executive Board of Muskies, Inc. for granting us the opportunity to introduce our basic purpose and cause at the ‘04 Spring Board Meeting. Although the WRMA is committed to using only the most qualified and unbiased experts and technology available in the course of our research, it would nonetheless be very short-sighted of us to think that a record agency will make a needed adjustment to a record simply because we feel our data is compelling. If, after comprehensive research, a record appears not to be genuine, the WRMA will need the support of a large number of Muskie anglers to encourage a record-keeping agency to reconsider the record data. Simply stated, The WRMA is asking Muskies, Inc. to represent that large group if we find a need to revisit a record with one of the agencies. The WRMA will present again at the spring, 2005 Muskies, Inc. International meeting, allowing time for our study to mature toward its logical completion. At this time the WRMA will offer Muskies, Inc. the opportunity to review our findings on each record separately and prior to release of any information to the proper record keeping authorities; in other words, to reject, support or add to the findings as they interpret the data. Funding We have set up the WRMA as a nonprofit organization to collect donations for the expense involved in procuring professional representatives to investigate and research each record. No one directly involved with this new organization will gain monetarily from this project. All monies donated will go toward hard costs only, such as professional investigative research, photo analysis, peer review, and incidentals such as printing and mailing. No travel or phone expenses have been or will be withdrawn from the account. Any surplus funds will be donated to future stocking or other Muskie related projects. Funding Chairperson Sought To ensure the WRMA’s continued ability to retain only the best and brightest experts in their given field to perform this vital research, at this time the WRMA is in urgent need of a dedicated and dynamic fundraising chairperson to take charge of this aspect of our mission. To support our cause by joining the WRMA, mail your contact information and $50.00 suggested donation to: THE WORLD RECORD MUSKIE ALLIANCE, PO BOX 7613, ALGONQUIN, IL. 60102. Please make checks payable to the WRMA. ($50.00 is a suggested donation amount; please feel free to give as your budget allows.) | ||
