| I'm really pumped for this weekend's outing. However, I've never fished Otter before and was wondering what info, if any, people would be willing to share about it. Is there a big weed factor, versus timber? What's the make-up of the lake? Bait/early season presentations? I hate not having a game plan coming into a trip, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much! |

| I can't believe I'm answering your post! I'm very selfish when it comes to secret lakes. I'm kind of hoping we're not talking about the same Otter lake. Otter lake that I'm refering to is between Springfield and St. Louis. Start at musky cove, work the north point in fairly deep water and work the entire cove from there. Cranks and eddies have worked for me as well as bucktails as the water warms up. If you find the shad, keep fishing the area with cranks or willow leaf spinners. I have never fished the north end as action in the south has been steady. My personal best has come from this lake.
Where are you from? and let me know how you did...

| Mo-Muskies,
Yep, we're talking about the same lake. Is it all right if I email you with some more questions? I'm gonna try and get hold of a map. Once I do can I shoot you some questions? Thanks much! |

Location: St. Louis, MO | You bet.. You can't go wrong fishing the west coves, south of the bridge. Then fish the steep shoreline on the east side by the dam. You'll be fishing some very steep shore line here and twitch a shad crank bait. I make my own and they resemble a 6"-7" Grandma. Crank it down and then twitch it back to the boat. You won't have much in term of weed beds at this time of the year, mostly lay-down timber and some old coontail beds.
If you get a Hot Spot map, musky cove is the cove to the upper left of the first 50' depth mark south of the bridge.
Good luck
