I will be up grading my trolling motor set up to a 24v system this spring and I have a couple questions. First off I was running a 30lb 12v motor with a set of batteries in paralel. I will now have these run in series, with the jumper from Battery 1 + to Battery 2 - and the battery leads from the motor to Battery 1 - and Battery 2+. Can someone confirm that this is the correct set up for 24v. The rest of my 12v systems go to only one battery (i.e. locators, pumps and lights, to Battery 1+ and Battery 1-.) I am pretty sure this is correct but just want to make sure.

Secondly I will be adding an onboard charger, and have been told I will need to disconnect the jumper when I charge. Is this also true?? I would think so, but am wondering if this is the case.

Lastly the 12v motor had a plug, and outlet on the front deck. THe power leads were run from the transom to the plug. The new motor will be a 67lb. Do I need to up grade my leads to a higher gauge wire from the batteries to the outlet, and do I need to change the fuse in the battery leads to the outlet on the front deck??

I would reccomend going to one of the following websites to see how to hook it up: Intertstate batteries, http://www.ibsa.com/estore/default.asp?mscssid=FNQPG3PU0RTG9N8RVKWX...
Minn Kota http://www.minnkotamotors.com/index_flash.asp

I honestly don't know which one I saw the info on recently on proper way to hook up 24 v system. As for wiring, always is good to go with a heavier gauge. The rest of your stuff I'll leave for someone else to answer as I'm not sure.

You don`t have to remove any wires when charging with the on-board charger. You probably will want to up-grade your wiring for the 24volt system. Bigger is better. Let me know might have a cheap outlet for the big stranded wire.

Erik, You've seen my setup haven't you. That series connection is just as you said. The disconnection of the lead between the two still mystifies me. I'll try as handy said and leave it hooked up this year though.

Fig,

You got it on the series wiring. You do not have to remove the jumper between the batteries, if you have a 2 or three bank charger. Also, I would recommend 6 ga. wire minimum. Not sure what you have now. You can get the wire almost anywhere. Fleet, Menards, Ace, or any electrical distributor.
