Location: Bloomington, MN | I just got back from 9 days of Pike fishing on Great Slave Lake. 7 days were at Trout Rock Lodge. All I can say is that it was stupid, like before. This is my second time pike fishing up there, and my friend's 4th time. He as a legit 50.25"., and we got 49 over 40", vs. 57 on the last trip. I got my P.B. a dandy 48", but the thrill goes away shortly after the capture....believe it not! It's pay pond fishing/shooting a fish out of a barrel it is is dummy fishing. No skill is needed except a bunch of money. Fun wore out with me real quick on this trip, Lot's of surcharges. I guess you can buy big fish. I'm too old and sensible to pay for Fittante's Gulf Shore property, meaning no replica.

| Problem with pike fishing up there is that all the fish are in one spot lol. There's no real hunting going on.. River mouth, mud bottom, 8 billion pike. I can see that getting boring after a while.
Now the lakers is a different story, I'd love to jig up a 40lb'r... I've got a buddy who goes up once a year, they don't even bother with pike. I believe their biggest laker is over 50lbs. |

| If I was to go trophy pike fishing, I would like to explore the Yukon River. Two years ago I and a couple others looked to book a self guided moose hunt with an outfitter who runs pike fishing outfit in summer. My brother in law's neighbor in SE Alaska had hunted there 5 years before and said they hunted in morning and fished in afternoon. Huge pike but also big sheefish, which are the largest members of the whitefish family and supposedly some fine eating. Unfortunately, outfitter lost his bush plane partner and butcher, so the trip didn't go. I think I was the only one looking forward to the fishing as much as the moose hunt. But for those that want a wilderness fishing experience at the foot of the Brooks Range, it would be a great trip. (salmon are also present at certain times of the year) |
