![]() Location: PA Angler | Do I need all 3 hooks on the lures. Can I remove any. Boy they are deadly catching my car. The net and the best one was when I caught a Muskie and the hook was attached to the net, my arm shirt and pant leg. Boy was I stuck haha.

Posts: 570 Location: deephaven mn | i think you can remove the back hook on big Minnow baits. Thats the one that has a tendency to swin up into fishes eyes. You may want to up size the two hooks you are leaving on depending on spacing because you don't want hooks to tangle either

Posts: 1257 Location: Walker, MN | I agree that removing the rear hook on a big crankbait or minnow bait isn't a bad idea at all. I've also done it with Suicks without losing any hook-ups. Better for the fish and the angler...I could see it costing a fish or two at some point but no big deal in the grand scheme.

Posts: 2292 Location: SE, WI. | IMO; if you’re talking a 6-7” lure, I’d probably remove the middle hook. If you’re talking a 9 inch or longer lure, I would NOT remove any of the hooks. In my boat, we’ve taken at least (8) 40 lb. Class fish ON the REAR hook. No way would I remove that rear Hook! Those big fish like to Nip! There are lure pouches to wrap your lures with to protect hooks from catching on things! JD

Posts: 1470 Location: Brighton CO. | On all my 5" Cranes, 6" Grandma's and 8" Jakes I have removed the middle hooks and up sized the other two. Back in the day a lot of folks used drill out there 9" Suicks and reposition the hooks and make them a two hook lure. I think there used to be a article in In-fisherman on how to do this. (or cheek the internet) There was drilling and cotter pins and no thank you. The 6" Slammer has the two hook set up from the factory. I've broken some ultra light rods by leaving lures on the rod when traveling. In fact if you like your two piece rods in two pieces break them down and put them in a rod case for the trip to the lake.

Posts: 190 Location: Rochester, New York | I would recommend getting rid of the middle hook and split ring in the middle and replacing the trebles with those single inline replacement hooks safer for everyone and people say they have the same hook up ratio and a few have said it has improved
