I picked up a 2014 Minn Kota terova 24 volt with spot lock on the fob, not on the foot pedal. It has a transducer built in and was wondering if I need a puck for spot lock to work. I'm replacing a 12 volt terova with no spot lock.
'Thanks in advance for any clarification on this subject.

My Terrova doesn’t need a puck for spot lock. It’s a ‘14 model if I remember correctly. I think they have better control or are more sensitive with a puck, though. Works well enough for me but I’m not jigging over small targets. The Terrova is my backup now.

Only the Bluetooth models can use the puck heading sensor. Your spot lock will work. You just wont have the jog feature that the BT models would have.

GPS sensor is inside the trolling motor head, no need for a puck. Your spot lock will work just fine. Also, the Terrovas never come with the spot lock feature on the foot pedal.

I must own a unicorn. My 3 year old terrova has spot lock on the foot pedal. (anchor marking)

Spot lock on the foot pedal on terrovas wasn't a feature until like 2017 or something I think.

I bought the $100 mini remote. The remote that came with the Terrova is too big and heavy, although it does have more features.

I have a 10 year old terrova 24v on my jon boat with no puck and I can spotlock in current fine without much drifting. If I was walleye fishing and needed to sit on little targets it might be different but works great for musky

That's the generation terrova I have as well. Can't use a puck with them. And spot lock is kinda garbage, better than not having it but your all over the place. Better stay seated when you hit that button!

Adjusting the "Scale" function helps in that regard. While not perfect, it does affect how soon and how much change is applied.

There is no scale on the 2014 Terrova. My second boat has one and I am very intimate with both versions of Ipilot

Got mine in 2014 w/Link and pretty sure it has a scale setting. I'll need to pull out the remote and see what it shows. I remember setting it when I installed it on my Lowe FM1710. I could be wrong.

Interesting comments when you say adjust the scale I'm thinking the speed, meaning turn it down real low before hitting the anchor button. Is that correct ?

If the spotlock tends to overshoot, decrease scale. If motor has difficulty reaching spotlock location increase scale. Leech Lake strain, try decreasing scale to see if that helps stabilize the motor.

The 2014 Terrova with ipilot has this remote. It does not have a scale adjustment. The link models wouldn’t either until 2016 when the BT models were released.
Also with no spot lock on the pedal, it is not the BT version so it has the original remote.

The scale adjusts how aggressively the motor attempts to correct and hold the boat’s position. The lower the setting, the slower it reacts and with less speed. The higher the setting, the faster it corrects but can overcorrect. That sets up an oscillating back and forth motion as it fights itself.

You guys are very knowable about this subject, would you know what kind of transducer is built into the 2014 terrova? I don't see any markings on the cable or anywhere else.
Thank you

Both my terrova and ultrex have a universal 2D transducer built in. Just need to get the correct adapter from your sonar unit.
