Anyone running one of the new Merc EFI 9.9’s? I’m looking at the ELH CT model to replace the short shaft 8hp Honda I currently have. The Honda runs fine after some repairs but even with an oversized anticavitation plate I made, it sucks air above 3.5-3.8 mph.

I know EFI outboards have been around for a while but the new battery-less EFI systems are not something I’ve dealt with. Anything I need to be wary of?

LOVE MINE!!!!! it's on its second season with not one issue. starts instantly, (my other 2018 merc 4 stroke with carb didn't), gets better gas mileage during trolling, has a larger alternator giving out more amps, and has power trim switch on the motor.

the only negative is that it has an oil filter, the previous one didn't. i troll a lot and change every 100 hrs as manual suggests.

i won't ever have a carb motor again!

Great to hear, pklingen. Bought one two weeks ago and I'm picking it up Saturday. I'll install it on my Skeeter myself. Surprisingly, these things don't come with screw clamps but I'll pick up a set. I know the weight and torque are higher than my 8 hp but I need to put it on a stand at first. I'll be installing the bolts once I get it positioned right. Looking forward to easy starting and electric trim.

As a mechanical engineer with a background in maintaining multi million dollar equipment, an oil filter is definitely a positive, not a negative.

yes i absolutely agree with you on that being a positive. i was just noting the difference as a little more work, and really meaning that there is really no negative side to owning one.

Not worried about a filter, everything I own except the 8Hp has one. Got an inductive hour meter coming today to attach and track running time.
