I picked up a 2014 Minn Kota terova 24 volt with spot lock on the fob, not on the foot pedal. It has a transducer built in and was wondering if I need a puck for spot lock to work. I'm replacing a 12 volt terova with no spot lock.
'Thanks in advance for any clarification on this subject.

My Terrova doesn’t need a puck for spot lock. It’s a ‘14 model if I remember correctly. I think they have better control or are more sensitive with a puck, though. Works well enough for me but I’m not jigging over small targets. The Terrova is my backup now.

Only the Bluetooth models can use the puck heading sensor. Your spot lock will work. You just wont have the jog feature that the BT models would have.

GPS sensor is inside the trolling motor head, no need for a puck. Your spot lock will work just fine. Also, the Terrovas never come with the spot lock feature on the foot pedal.

I must own a unicorn. My 3 year old terrova has spot lock on the foot pedal. (anchor marking)

Spot lock on the foot pedal on terrovas wasn't a feature until like 2017 or something I think.

I bought the $100 mini remote. The remote that came with the Terrova is too big and heavy, although it does have more features.

I have a 10 year old terrova 24v on my jon boat with no puck and I can spotlock in current fine without much drifting. If I was walleye fishing and needed to sit on little targets it might be different but works great for musky
