I GOT THE BASTARD!!!
Thanks Tyler, I ran the stinger and found the W32/bagle.g@MM virus.

I had 140 infected files..holy crap!!

everyone should do this....if you have XP or ME be sure to page down to the instructions first, there is a step you need to take first before you scan.

thx again......I feel so cleeeeeeeannn

Gregger,

I was going to send you scalding, viscious, vulgar e-mails when I got an e-mail from you last week that had a virus attachment. But my ISP flagged it, and removed it, so I held back my anger. hehehe I looked at the properties, and saw it really came from someone else. I've gotten about 8 of these in the last week, so our e-mail addy's are in somebody's address book, along with others that have gotten it.

I think that when the people are caught that write and distribute these things, their punishment, in addition to a LONG jail term, should be they get injected with a real virus! Maybe a bad strain of the flu virus, or worse! Maybe just a good spanking would work?!

No problem Greg. For future scans make sure you go back to that site and get the newest version every week or so, as it's constantly being updated.Shep, I like the real virus idea! Too funny...

I just ran this program. It said my system software was completely corrupted and needed to be reloaded. Luckily it did not find anything wrong with my computer!

My other puter started running slow than for about a week a PC game ( Battle Field 1942) started to crash off and on than the next day the puter wouldn't start up. It started to reboot but stopped at the black screen. Couldn't do anything with it. Tried using theWindows start up disc and got as far as the Bios Configueration and after that the black screen comes up again and says it can't locate the harddrive.
Did the hardive just wear out or could one of the viruses have nailed it?
I don't know what settings the Bios should be on or how to configuer it to work.
If a virus what can I do now or is the puiter DEAD and GONE now?
Tyler, do you have an idea?
Thanks,
Musky Alan

Hey Stan,Did it tell you there was no operating system? It would have said "insert system disk". It can be alot of things. What operating system do you have? Also, the BIOS is something you don't access from the Windows installation disk. You would have to hit a key during startup to get into it. When you re-boot, you would have to repeatedly hit a key (delete, F1, depends on make) to get into it.Windows OS will take you to a different screen to install the OS. Is that where it said it didn't find a hard drive? If that is the case, then most likely the hard drive died, the IDE chain died, or least likely, the IDE cable is bad.It is so tough to diagnose a machine when its not sitting in front of me.Do you know anyone that works on machines that can help you out? If not, I don't think that you are more than an hour from me. I could fix it for you.Tyler

This 61 year old man has done and succeeded in many things. My career was as a welding specialist, including many certifications including Marine, Nuclear, and high pressure vessels as some. I operate heavy equipment, was a licensed commercial/residential electrician but am I computer illiterate?, You betcha and I readily admit to it. But I am learning and if only I could design a good virus to crash all the present virus makers, that would be an achievment.
Tyler,
I did have to hit F1 to get into Bios but didn't know what to do once I got there. after I exit the Bios, the screen goes black and the message " Cannot detect Harddrive" appears. It's a Gateway GP7-600 and it's six years old. So I guess it probably died.
Thinking about updating both Puters and put everything up into the "Gigs" so they work faster and better. Thank you for your offer and I would help you also. Do you rebuild them too? I may just have you do that instead of trying to fix it.
Good day guys, see some of you in Pittsburgh the end of the month.

Tyler:

Everytime I refresh a hotmail page on my machine I get a new pop-up window. If it were not for my use of Hotmail I wouldn't need a pop-up stopper. I suspect I have a Trojan on my machine causing this becuase when I use Hotmail on my work machine I don't get the pop-up windows. I run SpyBot but it isn't fixing the proplem. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hey Stan,I would rather build you one from scratch. That machine is a bit too old to re-build. There is so much new technology out now. And there are alot of problems with getting old hardware to work with the new stuff. Even with new machines there is alot of proprietary hardware issues.I can almost guarantee that the HD is dead.I'm with you on the virus programmers. Today, it cost me about 15 hours of my life (long story), and that gets me rather angry. Why would you wake up in the morning, and think up something to make someone else's life miserable? Ya know? Just don't get it.I can build you a new machine no problem if you want to do it.Good fishin',Tyler

Luke,It was too big for the server, so I e-mailed it to you.Update: since you have a hot mail account I don't think it went through as it bounced back to me. If you have a different account e-mail it to me and I'll get it to you.

Hey Plitzzz,Way cool idea, you are on the right track definitely. I checked it out, and unfortunately you can't rely on that scan. It's just a step short of being perfect. The biggest problem is that it's not updated properly. The profiles change on viruses weekly. I'm going to keep checkin it though, till they have it perfected. I'm sure they will soon, so thanks for the link!

Rather then downloading it onto your hard drive try just opening it, worth a shot.
