Posts: 1439 Location: Brighton CO. | Heading off for a fishing adventure and in cases it takes more then a day to get where you're going and you stop for the night how nice of a place do you stay at?

Posts: 7050 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Depends on who I'm going with. Buddies on the road: we'll probably drive all night or find something in the cheap and somewhat dirty range. Wife: La Plaz de Rendevouuuuz!

Posts: 1763 | Comfort Inn, Sleep Inn, Hampton Inn. Holiday Inn Express. Last resort Motel 6 & Super 8's. I don't stay anywhere there are individual outside door room entrances which pretty much eliminates mom & pop style motels.

Posts: 1252 Location: Walker, MN | I look for a nice safe place to park a boat, and hopefully plug it in. Piece of mind is worth a lot.

Posts: 393 | Highest priority for where I stay is the parking lot. Is it well lighted, safe and open so that it will discourage individuals from doing things inside or outside my boat.

Posts: 20230 Location: oswego, il | I stayed at a motel in the Northwoods memorial day weekend. 3 nights, before it was bought and remodeled cost me 150. Now it costs 628. Edited by ToddM 7/2/2024 11:31 AM

Posts: 3873 | The ideal is a cheap motel with a well-lit parking lot and a 24/7 donut shop next door.

Posts: 1439 Location: Brighton CO. | Of course it depends on who you are fishing with. I used to get off work by noon on Thursday leave by two drive all night from Colorado and get to R&H's by noon (get fishing license and few lures.) go unload at the resort and off to a action Lake. And if things were going our way we have a couple muskies then off to Friday night fish fry. The years we fished on the Winnipeg we would drive all night and then stay in Fargo. Stop at Fleet Farm and Sheel's, dinner at Applebee's (they had Leinies on tap) then stay at the Super 8. Lots of years going to Minnesota we stay in Albert Lea. We more or less stay away from Super 8's now. We stayed at one last fall on the way home and I wish we just kept going and drove thru. What a dump.

Posts: 8794 | Usually whatever rat-trap flea bag motel we can find as long as the parking lot is well lit. We usually drive until we can't, and all we're going to do is wake up, shower, and then hit the road anyway... There have been a few times where we got off the highway to stop for the night, stopped for gas, and decided we'd be safer on the road though. You know it's bad when you have to argue about whether to give the gun to whoever is staying with the truck and pumping gas, or give it to the person who is going into the gas station to pee...

Posts: 1279 Location: E. Tenn | I've done the 16 hour grind to Duluth a number of times for work, and most recently the 14.5 hr. tour to the Northwoods during COVID.. I just didn't want to deal with the crap Illinois was preaching at the time.. Nowadays I'll stop on the way up to the Northwoods, and twice going to Canada.. the second night being in either International Falls or Ft. Francis. I have about a bazillion Holiday Inn points, so I use those when I can, and just spring for a similar hotel when I can't.
